James donation to library

The family of Edgar "Jesse" James, who served as mayor of Kane for 32 years, has dissolved the annual James scholarship for Kane High School graduates and is donating the fund balance of $3,882.87 to Friends' Memorial Library in Kane. Shirley James (left), wife of the Kane mayor who died in 2001 while still in office, presents the donation to Bill Bloom (right), secretary of the library board.

Leanne Holt (left), a cafeteria cashier in the Kane Area School District, prepares to obtain a fingerprint image from Ethan Brinkley (center) and Sadie Walter (right), both incoming first-graders at the Kane Elementary School. The images will be converted into student identification numbers for the school meal programs.

Vandals smash wall

This photo shows damage caused by vandals at a wooden privacy wall for the men's bathroom at Glenwood Park along Hacker Street (Route 321). Persons with information on the vandalism are urged to call the Kane Police Department or the borough office at 837-9240.
