A company retirement dinner was held Tuesday for Peg Kepler (center), who is retiring after a 41-year career with the Kane Republican. Kepler, who has served as general manager of the daily newspaper for the past eight years, is shown with her family at the dinner at Szymanski's Restaurant in Kane. The group includes, left to right: her daughter Amy Zimmerman of Kersey, her 8-year-old granddaughter Alyssa Shrubb, her husband Chuck, the honoree, her son Bernie of Palmyra and her 12-year-old granddaughter Aubrie Shrubb. More than 25 company employees and guests attended the buffet dinner, which featured a cake decorated in honor of the retiree. Darlene Coder, Republican publisher, presented several gifts to Kepler.

5 Kane school superintendents

The last five superintendents of the Kane Area School District gather for a reception prior to a dedication ceremony Wednesday for the new Kane Elementary School and the renovated Kane Middle School. The group includes, left to right: Dr. Charles Amuso, who served as Kane superintendent from 1987 to 1993; Dr. Maryann Anderson, who has served as superintendent for the past two years; Vern Johnson, who served as superintendent from 1974 to 1987; Sandy Chlopecki, who served as superintendent from 2004 to 2009; and Rick Fritz, who served as superintendent from 1993 to 2004. According to School Board Vice President Ken Kane, there have only been seven superintendents in the history of the school district.
