Kane losses to Ridgway again in five

The Kane Lady Wolves started out strongly against the Ridgway Elkers and battled through five games but fell short of the win. The Wolves are now 7-7 with two games remaining while Ridgway took its record to 14-1.
“We played some serious ball tonight and did a whole lot of aggressive playing," Kane head girls varsity volleyball coach Judy Kessler. "Unfortunately, we had a few lapses and Ridgway has a strong middle who controlled the net a lot when she was in the front.

Wolves handle Tide on Senior Night

The Kane Wolves soccer team played their season finale at home on Thursday afternoon against the visiting Curwensville Golden Tide. Ten Kane seniors were recognized prior to the start of the game. These players include: Justin Anderson, Tyler Laurie, Ryan Peterson, Christiane LaBrie, Jesse Brinkley, Peter Sirianni, Sam Anderson, William Carley, Jack Wolfe, and Corey McGuire.

Scientists discuss oak regeneration at Kane forum

Three scientists studying oak regeneration in Pennsylvania spoke Thursday at the Roach-Bauer Forestry Forum at the Kane Country Club.
The speakers included Dr. Patrick Brose, a research forester at the U.S. Forest Service lab in Irvine near Warren, and Dr. Gary Miller and Dr. Kurt Gottschalk, both based at the U.S. Forest Service research facility in Morgantown, W.Va.
More than 100 area professionals foresters attended the forum, which is held twice a year in Kane. Forestry students from Penn State University also attended the program

Donachy found guilty of murder

Lawrence Earl Donachy, 36, of St. Marys has been found guilty of second degree murder in the April 5-6, 1999 homicide of Irene Challingsworth, a 56-year-old St. Marys beautician.
A 12-member Butler County jury concluded their deliberations Thursday morning at approximately 10:20 a.m. when Elk County Court of Common Pleas President Judge Richard Masson announced the a verdict had been reached inside the Elk County Courthouse.
