SMETHPORT â€“Â The Kane Wolves varsity soccer team travelled to Smethport on Tuesday night to take on the rival Smethport Hubbers for the season opener. As expected, the game was very physical and was decided by the slimmest of margins.
The Kane Girls Golf Team improved their record to 3-2 with a convincing win over Port Allegany. Kyla Hoag again took home medalist honors with a round of 43. Megan Durante continues her improvement with a nice round of 54. Freshman Emily Silvis played her best match of the year as she scored a career low 57. Ellie Tunall and Sarah Szymanski rounded out the scoring with 58s. The girls' next match is scheduled for Monday, Sept. 12 at Smethport. Match time is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
Helen Kerekanich Stromberg, 76, of Sarasota, Fla., passed away Aug. 5, 2011.
Helen was born in Kane on May 26, 1935 to the late Charles (Mary) Kerekanich. She was predeceased by her husband, Harold "Curley" Stromberg.
