September 10th
Nedra A. Blauser, 54, of 415 Short St., Johnsonburg, formerly of Ludlow, died Friday morning, Sept. 9, 2011 at her residence.
Born Dec. 27, 1956 in Kane, she was the daughter of Neil E. and Phyllis J. Donahey Davidson.
A member of the former Church of the Nazarene in Kane, she had worked at Buffalo China in Warren, and as a cook and waitress at The Whirl in Ludlow and Colonial Inn near Kane. Â

The Kane boys golf team fell to 0-4 with a loss to Johnsonburg. Despite the loss, Coach Smith was pleased with the boys performance. All five players had rounds in the 40s. Unfortunately, the Rams team shot great, with a score of 201. Johnsonburg's Cameron Grumley and Calvin Christoff shared medalist honors with a pair of 37s. Kane again was led by Ryan Greto with a 42, Dan Park and Austin Woolcock tied with 46 while Koden Thompson and John Bedford scored 47 to round out the scoring for Kane. The boys next match is Wednesday, Sept. 14 at St. Marys. Match time is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
ST. MARYS – The Elk County Catholic Lady Crusaders broke open a close game in the second half Thursday at Benzinger Park on their way to a 5-0 varsity girls' soccer victory over the Kane Lady Wolves.
Freshman Julia Sweeney scored once and set up two other scores in the second half outburst for ECC.
"These young players are coming around well," said Lady Crusaders coach Don Fabiano. "It is so nice to see these players having success on.
Mildred C. (Monagan) Emanuelson, 98, of Hudson, N.H., passed away Monday, Sept. 5, 2011 at Southern New Hampshire Medical Center in Nashua.
Mildred was born in Rew City on May 1, 1913, a daughter of the late Dr. William and Bessie (Hopkins) Monagan.
She was the widow of the late Axel Emanuelson. Mildred was a resident of Kane for more than 30 years moving to New Hampshire in 1978 when she retired from Stackpole Carbon Company.Â
Francis L. Fleming, age 81, of Henrietta, N.Y. and formely of Mt. Jewett, died on Sept. 7, 2011.
He is predeceased by his daughter, Laura Lee; parents Thomas and Alice; and by five sisters.
September 8th
SMETHPORT – The Kane Wolves varsity soccer team travelled to Smethport on Tuesday night to take on the rival Smethport Hubbers for the season opener. As expected, the game was very physical and was decided by the slimmest of margins.
The Kane Girls Golf Team improved their record to 3-2 with a convincing win over Port Allegany. Kyla Hoag again took home medalist honors with a round of 43. Megan Durante continues her improvement with a nice round of 54. Freshman Emily Silvis played her best match of the year as she scored a career low 57. Ellie Tunall and Sarah Szymanski rounded out the scoring with 58s. The girls' next match is scheduled for Monday, Sept. 12 at Smethport. Match time is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
Helen Kerekanich Stromberg, 76, of Sarasota, Fla., passed away Aug. 5, 2011.
Helen was born in Kane on May 26, 1935 to the late Charles (Mary) Kerekanich. She was predeceased by her husband, Harold "Curley" Stromberg.

Patrick Anderson has proven this summer why he is one of the best pole vaulters in the nation.
With a record number of vaulters, 50 in all and the temperatures above 100, Anderson put together a group of good vaults which brought him home sixth-place honors at the Junior Olympic National Championships in Wichita, Kansas. He started his first attempt at 14'1" and had no trouble clearing it. The bar was then moved to 14'7" with only 24 vaulters left in the competition. Pat cleared it again on his first attempt.
The Kane Boys Golf Team fell to 0 -3 on the season as they were defeated by the Ridgway Elkers. The Elkers Jordan Lundin took home Medalist Honors with a round of 41. Leading the way for Kane was Ryan Greto with a 46. He was followed by Dan Park 49, Austin Woolcock and Koden Thompson 51 and John Bedford 56. Rounding out the scoring for the Wolves was Brendan Sharer with a 61 and Austin Hoag 63. The boys' next match is scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 8 when they host Johnsonburg. Match time is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
