JAMES CITY â A public meeting on the proposed closing of the James City Post Office is scheduled Tuesday at the Highland Township Fire Hall.
The meeting is expected to run from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the fire hall in James City.
The U.S. Postal Service has proposed closing hundreds of post offices nationwide in an effort to cut costs. The closing of post offices in Ludlow and Hazel Hurst also has been proposed.
Organizers are preparing for what will be the 13th installment of the Ridgway Chainsaw Carvers Rendezvous scheduled for Feb. 18-25 in downtown Ridgway.
"We're excited because it's coming fast and we're excited about the new location," said Zoe Boni, daughter of Rendezvous founders Rick and Liz Boni.
Vincent F. âJimâ Varisano, 85, of 621 Dawson St., died Friday, Jan. 20, 2012, at his residence.
Born Dec. 16, 1926, in Kane, he was a son of the late Peter and Angeline Ferraro Varisano.
Jim, a graduate of Kane High School class of 1944, served in the U.S. Army during World War II, with service in Japan. He was employed by the U.S. Postal Service in Kane, retiring in 1986 after 31 years of service.Â
Nancy A. Turner, 73, formerly of Central Towers, Kane, died Saturday afternoon, Jan. 21, 2012, at Sena Kean Manor in Smethport, where she resided for the past several months.
Born March 1, 1938 in Hazel Hurst, she was the daughter of David H. and Lena M. Dippo Hudson. On Oct. 28, 1958 in Newport News, Va., she married Clifton Turner, who died in 1996.
Nancy worked at the Food Lion grocery store in Grafton, Va. for many years. She belonged to the Kane Eagles Club Auxiliary.
