Wolves defeat defending AML Champion Port Allegany

In front of a good crowd in the Wolves Den the Kane wrestling team picked up their biggest win of the year as they defeated defending AML Champion Port Allegany.
Cody Blankenship got Kane off to a great start as he picked up a pin over his opponent. In one of the most anticipated matches of both regional qualifiers from last year, Jon Gelsick defeated Lucas Manning, 7-1.

New Kane budget plan trims tax increase

A new Kane budget plan for this year rolls back a property tax increase from 3 mills to 1.5 mills.
Acting before a standing-room-only crowd of more than 30, the Kane Borough Council voted 5-1 Tuesday to unveil the new proposed budget that trims the tax hike in half.
Council President Howard Kane joined with Councilwomen Janet Bard and Holly Harris and Councilmen Dennis Drost and Carl "Bill" Tunall to endorse the proposal. It was the first meeting for Tunall, who was elected in November. He replaces Mike Merry, who did not seek re-election.

Compton again heads Hamlin Board of Supervisors

HAZEL HURST – Don Compton of Hazel Hurst has been re-elected as the chairman of the Hamlin Township Board of Supervisors.
He was chosen Tuesday at the board's annual reorganizational meeting at the township building in Hazel Hurst.
Joni Britton of Bloomster Hollow has been re-elected as the vice chairman of the board. Guy Raught of Hazel Hurst is the third member of the Board of Supervisors.

James F. Perry

James F. Perry, 74, formerly a longtime Kane resident, passed away peacefully in his Doraville, Ga. home on Dec. 28, 2011 after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Mr. Perry was an Air Force veteran and retired as the Plant Manager of Southern Tea in Atlanta, Ga. He is survived by his second wife, Judy Camp Perry of Doraville, sons James P. Perry of Kane, Jon R. Perry (Joni) of Pittsburgh and daughter Jodi E. Perry of Manassas, Va., three stepchildren, one brother, three sisters and 16 grandchildren.

Dorothy J. Hurlburt

Dorothy J. Hurlburt, 82, of 7 Bridge St., Mt. Jewett, died Monday, Jan. 2, 2012, at Kane Community Hospital.
Born April 9, 1929, in Tioga County, she was a daughter of Peter F. and Cora Ann Slocum Jones. On Dec. 18, 1944, in Whitesville, N.Y., she married Andrew J. Hurlburt who preceded her in death.
Mrs. Hurlburt, a homemaker, is survived by three daughters, Juanita (Frankie) Cornelius of Mt. Jewett, Norma (William) Way of Irvine and Pat Camatti in California; a son, Duane Hurlburt of Andover, N.Y.; 20 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and a brother, Paul Jones of Hornell, N.Y.
