The Kane Wolves junior varsity football team scored 22 points, all in the first half, while shutting out the Ridgway Elkers on Monday night at Paul R Miller Stadium.
Logan Zuzek put the Wolves on the scoreboard, grabbing a pass from Jack Kocjancic for an early touchdown. Tyler Blankenship added the two-point conversion, giving Kane an 8-0 lead. Just minutes later, freshman Tyler Rolick ran one in for the Wolves.
BROOKVILLE â For the second year in a row, Elk County Catholic High School's Kristy Hanes finished in the runner-up spot among the Class AA golfers in the District 9 Girls' Golf Championship, three strokes behind the leader.
The scenario was unfortunately a familiar one for Hanes, who tied for second last year with Union's Larissa Roberts while coming in three strokes behind Redbank Valley's Samantha Dinger.
In this year's event, which was held at Pinecrest Country Club in Brookville, Hanes carded an 88 on the day, while Keystone's Amber Hess shot an 85 to take the title.
The Kane Lady Wolves soccer team played their first game in two weeks on Monday when they hosted the Port Allegany Lady Gators.
A longtime Highland Township supervisor has been charged with environmental law violations while serving as the certified operator of the James City sewage treatment plant.
Charlie Vaughn, 75, chairman of the township Board of Supervisors, until recently served as the state-certified operator at the sewage plant in James City. He resigned within the past few months.
According to a statement issued Monday by Pennsylvania Attorney General Linda Kelly, Vaughn is accused of filing "falsified environmental reports" with the state Department of Environmental Protection (DEP).Â

Kaneâs Jerrod Swanson was born with Nagerâs Syndrome, also known as acrofacial dysostosis. The condition is extremely rare with only a few hundred cases reported worldwide. According to the Foundation for Nager and Miller Syndromes, it is âa rare genetic condition involving physical anomalies.â
MT. JEWETT â Non-profit organizations and groups in Mt. Jewett are invited to apply for a share of the funds raised for a state-sanctioned Charter School in the borough.
Chuck Paar, president of the Mt. Jewett Borough Council, said Monday that "just under" $14,000 remains in the treasury for the Mt. Jewett Charter School Coalition.
RIDGWAY â A Ridgway man incarcerated since July 24 on arson and related charges, as well as charges of attempted murder and assault, was in Elk County Court Monday appealing for a reduction in bail so that he may be released from jail and return home while awaiting trial.
Francis Anthony Milliard, 54, of 76 Long Level Rd., Ridgway, waived arraignment and entered not guilty pleas Monday in five separate cases against him, including a 2010 Ridgway arson, a 2008 Johnsonburg arson, the assault of a Ridgway man, firearms possession by a convicted felon, and a drug offense.
