November 22nd
Marian C. Swanson, 90, formerly of Kasson, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2012, at the Elk Regional Hospital in St. Marys.
Born Sept. 9, 1922, in Kushequa, she was a daughter of Wells and Margaret Martin Blair. On May 2, 1948, in Kushequa, she married Russell Swanson who preceded her in death. They were the first couple to be married at the Kushequa Union Church.
Mrs. Swanson was employed in the Treasury office at the courthouse and later worked in the VA office.
A member of the Smethport Methodist Church, she also was a participant in the Bell Choir at the church.
Michael Alan Snyder, 57, of Kane, died Nov. 11, 2012, of an accidental drowning when the canoe he was in tipped over at the Kinzua Reservoir while he was fishing with his wife who also drowned in the accident.
Born April 23, 1955, in Clearfield County, he was a son of Charles H. and Dores Holt Snyder Sr. On Nov. 12, 1999, in Olmsted County in Minnesota, he married Terry Wegman who died with him in the accident.
Mr. Snyder was the owner of Snyder Contracting.
\He was a member of the VFW Lodge #1132 in Kane and was an avid fisherman and outdoorsman. He also was a NASCAR fan.

Just as many Kane area residents are sitting down to enjoy their Thanksgiving dinner, members of the Kane Eagles Club will be busy delivering hot meals to senior citizens and others who are alone on the holiday.
The body of Michael Snyder was recovered from the Kinzua Dam Tuesday, Nov. 20 at approximately 5 p.m. in the same area where the body of his wife was recovered on Nov. 11. The couple had drowned in a boating accident.

The Kane Area High School varsity cheerleading competition team was dealt a big blow just days before the 30th the Annual Pennsylvania State Cheerleading Championships, held this past weekend at the Kovalchick Complex on Indiana University of Pennsylvania’s campus.
SMETHPORT – The employees of the Sena Kean Manor in Smethport have been engaging in some good-hearted competition this holiday season.

MT. JEWETT – A total of 45 bears harvested throughout five different counties were processed at the Pennsylvania Game Commission's bear check station in Mt. Jewett on Saturday, the opening day of this year's four-day bear season. Of those bears, the majority-- 31-- were female, and most had been harvested in McKean County.
Workers from for the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) take advantage of recent sunny mild weather to seal cracks in the pavement on state Route 6 in Kane. The workers normally are plowing snow by this time of the season. But the snowplows remain parked at the PennDOT base on Route 6 near Kane.
Larry Smith, 68, passed away at his home in Tucson, Ariz. on Thursday, Nov. 15, 2012.Â
Larry was born Sept. 21, 1944 in Kane, to Dorothy Smith and the late George Smith.Â
He was a devoted and loving son, husband, father and grandfather. Larry was retired Air Force with over 20 years of service to his country.Â

CLARION – For the second straight week, the Wolves jumped out to an early 14-0 lead. For the second straight week, Kane’s opponent rallied to go ahead late in the fourth quarter. For the second straight week, the Wolves offense methodically marched down the field to score the go-ahead touchdown late in the game.
