DUKE CENTER â€“ The Kane Lady Wolvesâ€™ basketball team took home the 41st Annual Otto-Eldred Holiday Tournament title with a 55-46 win over Sheffield on Saturday. The Lady Wolves won the tournament for the fourth consecutive year.
On Friday, Dec. 21, the students at Kane Area Elementary School had a dance, each student was asked to make a monetary donation or a pet item for the local SPCA.Â
Thomas J. Collin, 79, of The Villages, Fla., formerly of Kane,Â passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2012.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Jan. 19, 2013 at the Cummings Funeral Home, Inc.

The Kane Wolves lost to Cameron County by 15 points last week in their final game before the holiday break. The Wolves took on the same Red Raider squad in the opening game of Thursdayâ€™s Sheffield Sports Boostersâ€™ Holiday Tournament, but this time the Kane squad gave the team from Emporium all they could handle. While Kane coach Brian Wymerâ€™s squad lost to Cameron County by a score of 64-55, the game was a one-point contest into the fourth quarter.
SMETHPORT â€“ The McKean County Commissioners adopted the 2013 budget in their final meeting of 2012, held Thursday at the McKean County Courthouse in Smethport. Commissioners Joseph DeMott and Al Pingie voted to approve the budget, while commissioner Clifford Lane voted against the resolution.
EMPORIUM â€“ The Emporium Borough Police reported that on Dec. 27, 2012 at 9:51 a.m., they along with the Emporium Fire Department and the Emporium Ambulance Service were dispatched to a residential fire at 370 E. Allegany Ave. with one person trapped inside.
I was now awakening to my first full day in Katmai National Park in southwestern Alaska. I had finally seen some monster Alaskan brown bears in their natural habitat. The weather had held out, being cool and very comfortable with temperatures in the high 60s and low 70s. I was enjoying Mother Natureâ€™s air conditioning, unaware of the near 100-degree temperatures both in Kane and in the lower 48 for July 2011.
The 4-year-olds at Kane Community Preschool were surprised by a visit with Santa.Â Santa delivered presents to the kids for being such good boys and girls all year.
Eleven acts entertained the students and faculty of the Kane Middle School at Fridayâ€™s talent show. The show was hosted by KAMS students Connor Crowley and Madison Selan, who kept the crowd laughing between acts.
Allen T. "Tommy" Walker Sr., 84, of 14315 Wilcox Rd., Clermont, passed away Thursday, Dec. 20, 2012, at UPMC Hamot in Erie.
Born Jan. 2, 1928, in Emporium, he was a son of Thomas and Lillian Dalrymple Walker. On Sept. 11, 1947, in Girard, he married Dollie Finn who preceded him in death.
