In part 11 of my Alaskan adventure series, I was in southwestern Alaska in Katmai National Park, just yards from seeing my first brown bears. The bear watching came to a quick halt as a fishing bald eagle put on show only feet from where I stood. Getting that close to a hunting bald eagle, and capturing a great image, made me forget for a moment why I came to this magnificent park, to see and photograph North America’s top predator, the Alaskan brown bear.
In the past five years, The Ridgway Record and The Kane Republican Editor Joseph Bell has acclimated himself to the community by covering everything from news to sports, and throughout those experiences has formed relationships with a wide variety of individuals and organizations. These bonds led Bell to pen numerous commentaries, three of which were recently recognized as Keystone Press Award winners from the Pennsylvania Newspaper Association (PNA).
SMETHPORT – A total of 29 properties with unpaid taxes sold by auction Monday at the McKean County Judicial Tax Sale at the courthouse in Smethport.
The Hamilton Township supervisors finalized the 2013 budget at Monday’s meeting held at the township building in Ludlow.
Michela E. Carlson, 85, of 6 East Sycamore Place, Lewisburg, formerly of Kane, passed away Sunday, Dec. 2, 2012, at Riverwoods Nursing Home in Lewisburg.
Born April 13, 1927, in Kane, she was a daughter of the late Gerald and Rose Montour Bonadio. On Sept. 14, 1948, in Kane, she married Carl "Bob" Carlson who survives.
Mrs. Carlson, a 1944 graduate of Kane High School, was employed as a dental assistant until retirement in 1974.
