Plans are being made to auction off surplus school equipment and other items now housed at the vacant Chestnut Street Elementary School in Kane.
The auction is set to begin at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 3. Public inspection of the auction items is expected to start about 9 a.m.
Corey Brown is the auctioneer hired by the Kane Area School District to conduct the sale. He is associated with Green Gable Village located on Route 219 in Great Valley, N.Y. just north of Salamanca. Green Gable Village is known as a multi-dealer shop for antiques.
Ken Kane said Thursday that he is "extremely honored" to be nominated for a seat on a newly-formed advisory committee on land management in U.S. national forests.
"I'm honored they would considered me qualified to serve on the committee," Kane said.
A 1977 graduate of Kane Area High School and a Kane borough resident, Kane has served as vice president of Keith Horn, Inc. consulting foresters since 1994.
He has worked for the Kane-based company since 1983, a year after he graduated from Penn State University with a degree in forestry.
Several criminal cases have been filed in Kane District Court.

*Jarod T. Poulin, 21, of Cuba, N.Y. is charged with the possession of .95 of a gram of âKryp2nite Originalââwhich âhas been labeled as synthetic marijuana.â
The defendant also is charged with careless driving, following too closely, operating an unregistered vehicle and other violations.
Mt. Jewett Borough Police Officer Steve Hale placed the charges after stopping a silver 2002 Chevrolet Camaro driven east on Main Street (Route 6) in Mt. Jewett.
