Marjorie A. Johnston, 85, formerly of Smithfield Avenue, Kane, died late Thursday evening, Feb. 23, 2012 at The Lutheran Home at Kane.
Born Oct. 29, 1926 in East Kane, she was the daughter of Joseph E. and Julia A. Walters Eck. On June 8, 1962 in Kane, she married John E. Johnston, who died in 1992.
Mrs. Johnston was a babysitter in the area for many years.
Pessimism was blowing in the wind in March 1997 when the American Refining Group (ARG) acquired the former Kendall refinery in Bradford.
“Most gave us six months,†former ARG President and Chief Operating Officer Harvey Golubock said Friday.
Just how wrong were those doomsayers?
ARG survived a rough start financially and last year had “our best year ever,†Golubock said. Another “good year†is expected, he said.
