SMETHPORT â McKean County and its municipalities soon will be reaping the benefits of âimpact feesâ assessed on Marcellus Shale and Utica Shale natural gas wells.
Acting Tuesday at a meeting at the courthouse in Smethport, the county Board of Commissioners agreed to advertise the ordinance that sets the fees on wells drilled in the county. The ordinance is based on state legislation finalized earlier this month.
Commissioners Joe DeMott, Al Pingie and Cliff Lane endorsed the ordinance, which is expected to be officially adopted by the county board at its meeting March 20.
Students in the Honors English 7 class at the Kane Middle School have written children's stories that have been published as books.
Jeannine Kloss, who teachers English 7 and computer literacy classes at the school, assigned the students to each write a children's story that focused on character education.
After writing their stories, the tales were published as books through the StudentPublishing.com website.
SMETHPORT -- Wetmore Township plans to use $6,165 in county liquid fuel tax revenue for a project to "chip seal" the surface of various roads.
The McKean County Board of Commissioners agreed Tuesday to approve the Wetmore application for county aid for the estimated $30,000 project. All work must conform with specifications set forth by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT).
