Joseph S. Sivak, 80, of 320 Haines St., passed away Sunday, March 18, 2012, at the Lutheran Home at Kane where he was a recent resident.
Born April 24, 1931, in Binghamton, N.Y., he was a son of Mathias and Anna Rohlicek Sivak. On June 30, 1956, in Kane, he married Carol Zimmerman who preceded him in death.
He had worked at Holgate before entering the U.S. Army where he served during the Korean War, attaining the rank of Sergeant. Upon his return, he again was employed by Holgate, later by Stackpole and finally worked for Kane Magnetics until his retirement.

Permit sought for sale of Kane sewer discharge

A permit application is being filed with the state Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) for the sale of Kane sewer effluent to drillers of Marcellus Shale and other natural gas wells.
KLH Engineers of Pittsburgh is filing the application on behalf of the Kane Borough Sewer Authority. KLH is the consulting engineering firm for the authority, which met Monday evening at the borough building in Kane.
"This is the first step," Authority Chairman Dave Peterson said in reference to the permit application to be filed with the DEP. "We can't do anything else until we get permission."
