Ruth J. Parker, age 83, of Olean Rd., Chaffee, died Saturday March 24, 2012 in Mercy Hospital, Buffalo, N.Y.
She was born March 30, 1928 in Dahoga, a daughter of the late Charles G. and Agnes C. (nee Larson) Johnson.Â She was a homemaker and member of Hope Lutheran Church, Arcade, N.Y.Â She enjoyed knitting and loved the time spent with her family.
Her husband Earl F. Parker whom she married Aug. 6, 1949 in Buffalo died in 1988.
Dolores "Dorie" Mays, 72, of 23 Woodpile Drive, Westline, passed away Friday, March 23, 2012, at Hamot Medical Center in Erie.
Born March 28, 1939, in DuBois, she was a daughter of Stanley and Mary Meholick Sunealitis. She was married to David Mays who preceded her in death.
Registration for 2012-13 kindergarten classes at the Kane Elementary School is scheduled Thursday at the school.
To enter kindergarten in the next school year, children must turn 5 on or before Aug. 31.
Parents are asked to bring their child to registration in accordance with the following times on Thursday:
*Last names beginning A through Gâ€”3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
*Last names beginning H through Pâ€”4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
*Last names beginning R through Zâ€”5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
Nine persons have been fined for allegedly taking part in an early morning fight on Anderson Street in Mt. Jewett earlier this year.
Kane District Court Judge Dave Engman levied the fines. The fines and court costs assessed in the incident total $3,389.
Mt. Jewett Police Officer Steve Hale filed the charges following an investigation into the fight that allegedly woke up neighbors.
According to district court records, the following action has been taken for those charged in the incident:
Fines have been levied in several non-traffic cases in Kane District Court.
Kane District Judge Dave Engman has handled the following cases:
*Jennifer Phillips of Bradford pleaded guilty to passing bad checks at the Quick Stop Market in Kane. She has been assessed $244.74 in fines, court costs and restitution ($80.75).
*A 15-year-old Ludlow male pleaded guilty to use of tobacco at Kane Area High School. He was assessed $154 in fines and court costs.
*A 15-year-old Kane male pleaded guilty to use of tobacco at Kane Area High School. He was assessed $145 in fines and court costs.
Pride in the community will be shining bright on the second annual KARE For Kane Day scheduled Friday, May 11.
More than 45 volunteers already have registered to participate in the â€śspring cleanupâ€ť program to spruce up Kane.
The Kane Area Development Center (KADC) and the Kane Area Revitalization Enterprise (KARE), sponsors of KARE For Kane, are seeking 300 volunteers this year.
In the first year, a total of 230 volunteers worked on 37 community-improvement projects.

With the enormous success of past years event, the expectations of this year to be even larger. With the continues sponsorship from Allegheny Outfitters, which has been a huge supporter of the Allegheny National Forest Chapter of the North Country Trail. The Allegheny 100 challenge promoting awareness of the North Country Trail, Allegheny National Forest and McKean, Warren and Forest Counties.
Failing students in Kane High School and Kane Middle School would able to get back "on track" for graduation by taking Internet courses this summer.
The school board's Curriculum Committee received input on the proposed Internet summer school earlier this month. The school board may approve the concept at its meeting April 19.
Even though the local economy is sluggish, Kane area residents have stepped to the plate to help the needs of the community through the United Fund campaign.
The United Fund drive-- which benefits 18 community-service organizations-- has ended by topping its goal of $35,000.
The total of $36,087.50 is 103 percent of the target, according to Jennifer Macey, president of the volunteer United Fund Board.
SMETHPORT -- Hazel Hurst native Jamie R. Himes, who was wounded in Iraq in 2005, has been granted a Veterans Exemption and will receive a refund on her 2012 property taxes on her residence in Liberty Township near Port Allegany.
Acting Tuesday at a meeting in Smethport, the McKean County Board of Commissioners voted 3-0 to approve a county tax refund of $659.59 for the property at 768 Upper Portage Road. Commissioners Joe DeMott, Al Pingie and Cliff Lane all voted in favor of the refund.
