On a beautiful day for a ball game the Kane Lady Wolves softball team put together maybe their best game of the year as they knocked off Brockway 10-9 in a 7-inning thriller.
In the first two innings, both pitchers seemed to have the batters off balance as Kane's Kyla Hoag had four strikeouts while Brockway's pitcher recorded five. Brockway was able to take an early one run lead in the top of the first. The Lady Rovers' second hitter got a single then stole second and went to third on a wild pitch. She scored the game's first run as the next batter got a sacrifice fly.
The Kane Borough Council is looking ahead to another mild winter.
Instead of buying 1,000 tons of anti-skid material to spread on icy borough streets in the winter, council voted 5-1 Monday to seek new bids for just 500 tons of the tiny pebbles.
Council is gambling that the 500 tons—plus the stone left over from this year—will be sufficient for road maintenance next winter.
