June 13th
Bonnie M. Harris, 89, formerly of 711 Smithfield Ave. in Kane, died Wednesday morning, June 13, 2012 at The Lutheran Home at Kane, where she resided.
Born Aug. 11, 1922 in Duhring, she was the daughter of William D. and Myrtle K. Krise Herron.Â
Mrs. Harris was an assembler for Stackpole Corp. in Kane for 25 years, then was a nurse's aide at Sena Kean Manor in Smethport for five years.
She was a member of the former Order of the Eastern Star in Kane.
JAMES CITY â The Highland Township sewage enforcement officer (SEO) has expanded his services to include work under the new stormwater management ordinance.
In a letter discussed Wednesday at a meeting of the Highland Township Board of Supervisors, SEO Russ Braun of St. Marys said he now is a "certified" stormwater inspector.
"This certification meets the requirements for me to perform municipal reviews and inspections of stormwater management activities as required by the recently adopted stormwater ordinance." Braun said in his letter to the supervisors.

LUDLOW â The South Hillside Avenue bridge in Ludlow is considered a âhigh priorityâ for maintenance.
This is the label listed for the bridge in a report from inspectors for the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT).
Hamilton Township, owner of the bridge, now is under the gun to make repairs as early as this month, according to the report.
C.C. Johnson & Malhorta (CCJM), an engineering firm from Camp Hill, issued the critical report after inspecting the bridge that crosses Two Mile Run.
South Hillside Avenue is near the Ludlow Post Office on the west end of town.
After diagnosing Terika Schleicher with spastic diplegic cerebral palsy, doctors believed she would never be able to walk because the neurological condition would negatively affect both of Schleicherâs arms and legs.
The doctorsâ worries didnât stop there.
Because of a stroke before her birth, a portion of Schleicherâs brain wasnât able to form correctly. Instead, an arachnoid cyst grew to take the place of the damaged tissue. Doctors werenât sure if she would ever be able to talk or attend a regular school.
Jeffrey A. Baker, 55 of Bradford, formerly of Kane, passed away on Sunday, June 10, 2012 at the Bradford Regional Medical Center.
 He was born on Nov. 21, 1956 in Port Allegany, the son of the late Robert and Delores âHoneyâ Townsend Baker.
He attended Kane area schools.
He was an avid hunter and fisherman who just loved to be outdoors whether it was throwing horseshoes, playing softball or sitting around a campfire. In his spare time he enjoyed playing Yahtzee. He loved all of his faithful dogs that he had throughout his life.
Jack M. Archer, 82, of 6 West End Dr., Bradford, passed away Saturday, June 9, 2012 at The Pavilion at BRMC.
Born on March 20, 1930, in Butler, he was a son of the late Morris and Wilma (Prigg) Archer.
On Sept. 1, 1957 in Kane by the Rev. Clark Cochrane, at the First Congregation Church he married Margaret "Peggy" (MacEwen) Archer who survives him.
June 10th
Earlier this year I wrote about fishing charters and photography. In that article I recommended that taking a camera, either on a small Lake Erie charter, or a larger ocean charter, can be quite worthwhile. You never know what you may encounter and without a camera to record it, no one may believe you. After all, fishermen are known to tell tall tales!
Raymond "Ray" Hillard, formerly of Kane, passed away early Thursday morning, June 7, 2012 in Palm Coast, Fla.Â
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Lois and their son Darrel. He proudly served his country as a second lieuetant in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II. Mr. Hillard retired from the timber management division of the U.S. Forest Service before moving to Florida to spend time with his family. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening and bird watching during his free time.Â
Donald Chittester, 84, of 43 Brickyard Rd., passed away Saturday, June 9, 2012, at Heinz V.A. Hospital in Aspinwall.
Born April 12, 1928, in Brandy Camp, he was a son of Oran and Nellie Daugherty Chittester.
Mr. Chittester had been employed as a truck driver for Kane Manufacturing and also had been previously employed as a driver for JB Hunt. In addition,he had taught truck driving at Dublin Tech College in Georgia and had worked for the California Forestry Service.
Don was the present Commander of King David VFW Post 1132 in Kane and had served in the U.S. Navy, retiring as a Seabee.
June 8th
Diplomas were awarded Friday to 60 graduating seniors at the 122nd commencement for Kane High School.
The program at the packed high school auditorium featured the presentation of more than $80,000 in scholarships.
State Senior Judge John Cleland, a 1965 Kane High graduate who has lived in Kane most of his life, delivered the commencement address.
In his remarks, entitled âUnfinished Business,â Cleland told the graduates they are âlucky to have grown up in a small town.â
