Kane boys golf team 3-1 on young season

The Kane Wolves’ golf team improved to 3-1 on the season with a split on Thursday afternoon at Kane Country Club. The Wolves defeated Port Allegany 246-352 and dropped a decision to Ridgway by a score of 201-246.
Freshman Jamie Rook led the Wolves with a 43. Teammates Austin Woolcock and Trace Gordon both shot their career best rounds with scores of 47 and 49, respectively.

Giant festival Saturday to honor fallen soldiers

A 16-hour local festival Saturday will raise money to assist families of soldiers killed in action in Iraq and Afghanistan.
The Staff Sgt. Kenneth VanGiesen Memorial Fallen Soldier Tribute Foundation is sponsoring the first annual Summer Fest.
The event on the grounds of the Allegheny Mountain Raceway on Highland Road near Lamont begins at 10 a.m. Saturday and runs until 2 a.m. Sunday.
