Kane knocks off Johnsonburg volleyball, 3-1

JOHNSONBURG – The Kane Lady Wolves gave the home team fits Thursday night in the serve-receive statistics category in a 3-1 (25-21, 25-17, 21-25, 25-12) win over the Johnsonburg Ramettes.
Kane had little trouble in the first two games against the Ramettes before a hiccup in the third game sidetracked the visitors. The Lady Wolves regrouped quickly, however, to clinch the decisive fourth game for the win.

Middle School girls basketball teams defeat Sheffield

Kane’s seventh- and eighth-grade girls’ basketball teams both won in their home openers on Wednesday. The seventh-grade girls won in the first game of the afternoon, defeating the young Lady Wolverines by a score of 14-10, followed by the eighth-graders' 32-3 drubbing of Sheffield.
Coach Mary Espin’s seventh-grade squad evened their record at 1-1 with the win. Trinity Clark led Kane with six points, followed by Amber Carlson with four. Gina Marconi and Mackenzie Witherell chipped in two points each for the Lady Wolves.

More parent involvement sought at Kane schools

Kane school administrators are planning to develop and implement strategies to increase parent involvement in the education of their children.
One of the proposed initiatives calls for the creation of a "parent advisory committee" to work with school officials.
Ideas for increasing parent involvement in Kane schools were discussed Thursday at a meeting of the school board's Curriculum Committee.
Dr. Maryann Anderson, superintendent of the Kane Area School District, said "we're trying to create more interest" among parents.

Kane places third at Bradford Invite; Swamps Brookville, DuBois

BRADFORD – In recent cross country action, the Kane Wolves competed at the Bradford Invitational and also at Brookville on Tuesday, besting many teams in the process.
As has been the trend this season, the only squad to field a full team was the varsity boys, although the other teams had fine individual performances. At Bradford, the varsity girls would start the day with Kristin Boyer placing fifth overall with a time of 21:42 and Olivia Kumher running a time of 36:04.

Career and College Fair is slated at high school

High school students can explore their post-graduate options at the first annual Career and College Fair to be held next Wednesday, Sept. 26 at Kane Area High School.
Representatives from businesses and colleges will be providing information and brochures from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the high school cafeteria.
Recruiters for the branches of the Armed Forces also will be on hand to answer questions about military service.
In total, at least 25 representatives are expected to reserve table space for the Fair.

Lady Wolves defeat Ridgway in four games

The Kane Lady Wolves defeated the Ridgway Lady Elkers in four games on Tuesday in the Wolves’ Den.
Kane won easily in game one by a score of 25-12. Game two was a much closer affair, as the home team rallied for the 25-20 win. The visitors took game three as Kane struggled with their passing and communicating. Kane head coach Judy Kessler’s team then regrouped to take a marathon game four by a score of 30-28, winning the match.

Dutch soccer shuts out Kane 4-0 Tuesday afternoon

The St. Marys Area Dutch soccer team added another win to their season record on Tuesday afternoon, shutting out the Kane Wolves 4-0 at the SMAHS soccer field.
"I'm happy for the kids. We were able to score four goals, which was tied with our season high so far," said St. Marys Area coach Russ Micale. "They played a good, solid game the whole time. I'm proud of them."

All 3 Wetmore supervisors to direct road crew

All three Wetmore Township supervisors will share the responsibility of directing the two-man road crew.
This decision was made Tuesday by a 2-1 vote of the supervisors at a 59-minute meeting at the township building on Spring Creek in East Kane.
Supervisors Bill Ryding and Elaine Bodisow agreed that “all three” members of the township board will direct the road crew. Supervisor Steve Dyne, who resigned Aug. 7 as the volunteer road superintendent, cast the lone negative vote.

Alverta A. "Pete" Castor

Mrs. Alverta A. "Pete" Castor, 86, passed into the next life at 6 a.m., Tuesday, Sept. 18, 2012 in Kane Community Hospital following an extended
illness.
She was born Oct. 12, 1925 in Accident, Md. to the late Harry and Ida Holliday Wilhelm.
An area resident for the past 50 years, "Pete" retired from Sylvania after 30 years service. She was a workaholic and kept an immaculate home and
enjoyed going to Las Vegas, Atlantic City, and playing bingo.
She is survived by three daughters, Noreen Griffith and husband Dan, Sheffield, Anita Frederoski, Sheffield, and Loretta Davidson and husband

Undermanned Lady Wolves battle St. Marys in soccer action

September 17, 2012

The Kane Lady Wolves started Monday’s game against St. Marys with only 10 healthy players and lost 4-2.
By the time the contest was over, Kane head coach Allie Saquin and assistant coach Jeff Gibbs had only eight exhausted players left on the field. Those who remained gave a tremendous effort for 80 hard-fought minutes.
