Chelsea Hunt and Rachel Danielson both finished among the top 10 in the Country at the AAU Junior Olympics National Championships in Houston, Texas. They competed against other top jump ropers from the United States, Australia and Canada at the George R. Brown Convention Center.
September 6th
The Kane Lady Wolves swept DuBois Central Catholic Lady Cardinals in three sets on Thursday in the Wolvesâ Den. The Lady Wolves won by scores of 25-17, 25-9 and 25-14 to improve to 2-0 on the young season.
Kane head varsity volleyball coach Judy Kesslerâs squad played a little lackadaisical to start the match. The set was tied at 11 before Kane started serving better and turned the tide.
The Kane Lady Wolves soccer team lost 5-0 to Elk County Catholic on Thursday in a game shortened by lightening.
The Lady Wolves kept the game scoreless for the first 10 minutes, but the visitors got on the scoreboard twice in less than five minutes to dig themselves into a hole against the Crusaders.
Dawn Saquin and Taylor Bucheit had a couple nice runs downfield, but werenât able to get off a shot on the ECC goal. After the Crusaders padded their lead to 3-0, Saquin had a nice pass to Nerissa Rich, who got off a shot, but it was wide left.
Despite high unemployment and a dismal economy, adults still want to play with their âtoys.â
For this reason, Mountain Motorsports of Kane is expanding its operation at 300 N. Fraley St.
âOur business has been growing and we need additional space,â Jon Sklar, company owner, said in explaining the basis for the expansion.
A 30x44-foot building now is under construction at the rear of the showroom and service area at Mountain Motor Sports.
Sklar said the addition would provide more âshop spaceâ for the service and repair of motorcycles, all-terrain vehicles (ATVs) and snowmobiles.
Mary N. Housler-Slocum, 88, of 9605 Rte. 6, passed away Thursday, Sept. 6, 2012, at Bradford Regional Medical Center.
Born March 27, 1924, in Brooklyn, N.Y., she was a daughter of the late Ceasare and Delfina Colacchio Pucci. On April 28, 1946, she married Robert L. Housler Sr. who preceded her in death. She later married Leonard W. Slocum who also preceded her in death.

MT. JEWETT â Mt. Jewett Councilman Brett Morgan has been asked to resign due to alleged inappropriate remarks made on stage at the Mt. Jewett Swedish Festival last month.
Jim Troutman and Francis Auriemmo Jr. of Mt. Jewett both have called for the removal of Morgan from the borough government. They called for Morgan's resignation Tuesday at a meeting of the borough council.
According to Troutman, Morgan took the Center Street stage at the Swedish Festival on Friday, Aug. 10 and mocked his business-- Troutman Sanitation.
JOHNSONBURG - Francis Anthony Milliard, 54, of Ridgway, currently incarcerated on arson and arson-related charges for his alleged role in setting two Elk County house fires, as well as charges of attempted murder and assault stemming from the beating of a Ridgway man, was in District Court in Johnsonburg Wednesday where he waived his preliminary hearing on new charges of felony firearm possession and violations of the Controlled Substance, Drug, Device, and Cosmetics Act (CSDDCA).
Patricia A. Harp, 71, of 15 Kushequa Ave. in Mt. Jewett, formerly of Marienville, died Wednesday morning, Sept. 5, 2012 at the Kane Community Hospital after a recent illness.
Born March 17, 1941 in Allison Park, she was the daughter of George L. and Anna L. Lane Schreiber. On Feb. 13, 1960 in Lucinda, she married Forest W. Harp, who died in 2007.
Catholic by faith, she served in the U.S. Navy in Hawaii, then had worked as a packer for Owens Illinois in Brockport.

The Kane Lady Wolves volleyball team looked like they were going to make it a quick night in their season opener against St Marys, winning the first two sets, 25-22 and 25-10. The Lady Dutch, however, were not anxious to leave Kane and won the next two sets by a scores of 25-23, setting up the fifth and final set. The home team trailed 14-11 at one point, but rallied to win the set 16-14 to win the match and start the season 1-0.
On a muggy, soggy afternoon, the Wolvesâ cross country teams dropped all contested races to the Bradford Owls in a 50-15 loss despite having quality showings from several veteran and new athletes.
In the middle school races, Kane would not be able to field full teams for the outing, resulting in 50-15 losses.
