November 15th
Helen E. "Bonney" Vito, age 88, of Albuquerque, N.M. died peacefully Monday, Nov. 5, 2012, after a two-month struggle with injuries suffered in a fall at home.
She was born Feb. 11, 1924 in Battle Creek, Mich. to Albert Bonney and Eva I. Long. She attended school in Jackson, Mich. and graduated from high school in 1941.
She met Frank Vito, an Army veteran from WWII (from 229 Beech St., Kane) in Washington, D.C. in 1946 and they were married in Jackson, Mich. on Sept. 2, 1948.
November 14th
It’s a long way from Kane, but Gary Meckley’s 1960 classmates were sure he would fly to the lunar surface one day. According to the whimsical Senior Class Prophecy, the talented thin-clad would make it there with the aid of only his trusty steel pole. In his Senior Yearbook, his cohorts wrote “The class of 1960 held its 25th annual reunion at Crater Inn on the moon, United States Territory. The classmates flew there by way of Missile Space Lines, except for Gary Meckley, who came via pole vault.
Despite extensive repair work, the wooden skate/bike ramps at Glenwood Park in Kane remain closed indefinitely.
Many donations have been received for new surface materials at the youth facility. Volunteers—both teens and adults—have been handling the repair work.
The main issue now is insurance.
Kane native Sean Perry will premiere his newest film this Saturday night at 8 p.m. at the Kane Elks Club on Chestnut Street. Sean Perry Productions will present the initial public viewing of “Diamonds Are A Con’s Best Friend,” along with showings of two of his earlier films.
November 13th
SMETHPORT – Ken Bush of Lantz Corners is retiring as the McKean County maintenance director.
His last day on the job is next Wednesday.
Bush has held the county position for the past five years.Â
Zach Holt (left) and Brandon Long (right), both members of the Kane Volunteer Fire Department, climb a steep bank at the Allegheny Reservoir while taking part Tuesday in an unsuccessful shoreline search for an apparent drowning victim. Police said Kane residents Mike Snyder and his wife, Terry Lee died when their canoe capsized Sunday at the reservoir. Police said the woman's body was recovered Sunday. The Ludlow Volunteer Fire Department asked the Kane firefighters to help Tuesday in a shoreline search for the man.
There's no property tax increase in the proposed 2013 Kane borough budget.
The Kane Borough Council voted 6-1 Tuesday to adopt a tentative general fund budget of $1,378,000.
Council President Howard Kane endorsed the proposal along with Councilwomen Janet Bard and Holly Harris and Councilmen Harold Hallberg, Bill Tunall and Dennis Drost.Â
Jesse D. Swanson, 22 of 6969 Highland Rd. passed away Sunday, Nov. 11, 2012 at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh.
Born May 12, 1990 in St. Marys, he was a son of John R. and Tracy P. (Lundberg) Swanson.
Jesse was a 2008 graduate of Kane Area High School and graduated from Triangle Tech in 2010. He was a welder and fabricator for Dangelo Auto Body. Jesse was an avid snowboarder, hiker, camper and weightlifter.
November 12th
Mike and Terry Snyder, both of 307 Maple St. in Kane, both died in a canoeing accident Sunday morning at the Kinzua Reservoir. Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by the Cummings Funeral Home, Inc.
The Kane’s Intergenerational Daycare Service (K.I.D.S.), which is operated by the Lutheran Home at Kane in a separate facility on the site, is a new Kane United Fund recipient agency.
 K.I.D.S. provides a safe and constructive learning for children ages six weeks to five years. The daycare provides meals and snacks, crafts, computer labs, games and intergenerational activities as well as transportation to local pre-school programs. An affiliated program offers after-school care to school age children.Â
