Gibson, Tigani recognized by Pennsylvania American Legion

Jim Gibson and Pat Tigani have been selected for induction into the Pennsylvania American Legion Sports Hall of Fame. They are being recognized for their years of dedicated service, contributing to the advancement of the Legion Baseball Program and devotion to youth in the community.

Shirle Ann Strawcutter Deitz

November 12, 2012

Shirle Ann Strawcutter Deitz, 79, formerly of 109 Clay St., Kane, passed away Saturday Nov. 10, 2012 in the Lutheran Home of Kane.
Mrs. Deitz was born April 16, 1933 in Brookville the daughter of Ray Edward and Evelyn McManigle Strawcutter.   She was married on Oct. 19, 1986 in Kane to Albert “Jocko” Deitz who died March 7, 1993
Mrs. Deitz worked for 36 years at Stackpole Carbon Company.   She was a 1951 graduate of Kane Area High School and was a member of the Tabor Lutheran Church.

The Kane Wolves survived the first round of the District 9, Class AA playoffs with a thrilling 35-34 win over the Brookville Raiders at Paul R Miller Stadium on Friday night.

None injured as fire destroys cab on tanker truck

NANSEN – No one was injured Friday morning when a fire destroyed the cab of a tanker truck on Route 66 near Nansen in Highland Township.
The tanker was loaded with 4,500 gallons of liquid wax, according to Bill Edinger, chief of the Highland Township Volunteer Fire Department.

Vernon B. Olson

November 10, 2012

Vernon B. Olson, 85, of 519 Biddle St., Kane, passed away Thursday, Nov. 8, 2012 in Kane Community Hospital.
Born Feb. 20, 1927, in Wilcox, he was a son of Charles and Edith Simpkins Olson. In 1946, he was married to Elizabeth Cooley who passed away in 1966. On June 15, 1968 in Shamokin he married Sandra Ryan who survives.
Mr. Olson worked for 37 years at Kane Manufacturing Co. retiring in 1991 as chief estimator. He was a veteran of World War II serviving in the U.S. Navy Amphibious Unit.

Wolves host Raiders in first round of AA Playoffs

The 6-3 Kane Wolves will host the 6-4 Brookville Raiders on Friday night in a District 9 Class AA semifinal game.
The second-seeded Wolves got some help from Otto-Eldred, Sheffield and Ridgway, all of whom won games in week 10 and helped the idle Wolves earn some more Power Points to earn the right to play at home in the first round.

Robert S. "Bobby" McClellan

Robert S. "Bobby" McClellan, 25, of 8 Center St., Mt. Jewett, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2012, at his residence.
Born Jan. 5, 1987, in Kane, he was a son of Robert Dunkle and Elizabeth Kiser. He was adopted and raised by his grandmother and grandfather Mary and Robert  McClellan of Mt. Jewett.
Bobby was a construction worker with F & A Construction. He was a member of the Mt. Jewett Sportsman's Club.

Youth soccer opposes transfer of fields to school
