November 1st
On Thursday, Nov. 8, everyone will have an opportunity to see renowned local artist and woodturner, Jack Northrop, at Friends' Memorial Public Library at 7 p.m. Mr. Northrop will demonstrate his talent turning several small bowls and possibly, a pen, in the Al Forman Meeting Room downstairs in the library.
October 31st
The Kane Lady Wolves had to wait an extra day to begin the District 9 Class A volleyball tournament but proved they haven't lost a step in a three-game sweep against Brockway.
The streets were filled with ghost, vampires, flower pots, lions and much more on Wednesday night as the children of Kane celebrated Halloween by Trick-or-Treating.
October 30th
The 4-year-old class at Kane Community Preschool celebrated Halloween in style. All the children dressed in costume, had a Halloween scavenger hunt and played lots of spooky Halloween games.
âHurricane Sandyâ brought high winds and heavy rain to the Kane area Monday night.
For most, however, uprooted trees and power outages appeared to be the only damage and inconvenience caused by the Halloween-time hurricane nicknamed âFrankenstorm.â
October 29th
Kane area residents are heeding the advice of weather experts and are stocking up on necessities as the wrath of âHurricane Sandyâ bears down on the region.
MT. JEWETT â Due to high winds and heavy rain linked with "Hurricane Sandy," the Halloween schedule has been changed in Mt. Jewett and Hamlin Township.
The Halloween parade in Mt. Jewett now will be held at 5 p.m. Saturday.Â
The Mt. Jewett Rotary Club sponsors the parade on Main Street from the Hamlin Bank parking lot to the driveway for the fire hall.
The Rotary Club will hold its costume-judging party in the fire hall immediately after the parade.
"Trick or Treat" hours in Mt. Jewett will be 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Saturday.
October 28th
The scarecrow contest began Monday Oct. 22 and will run until Halloween evening on Wednesday Oct. 31. People are invited to vote for each scarecrow at that business or for any businessâ scarecrow at Kane Area Development Center. The scarecrow with the most monetary votes on Halloween evening will be declared the winner. All voting funds will be donated to a local charity of the winnerâs choice.
RIDGWAY â Members of the Kane Area High School girls' and boys' cross country teams put on a strong showing in the District 9 Class A girls' and boys' events at the PIAA District 9 Cross Country Championship Meet at the Francis S. Grandinetti Elementary School on Saturday, with four members of the Wolves' squad and two members of the Lady Wolves qualifying to advance to the state meet next weekend in Hershey.
Scott Szymanski, 8, of Kane, assisted by his grandmother Joyce Neubert of Pittsburgh, carves a face in a pumpkin Saturday during the "Fall Frenzy" in Kane. The pumpkin carving activity took place at the Kane Depot.
