School board denies three grievances filed by KAEA

The Kane Area School Board held an executive session prior to Thursday’s regular monthly meeting to discuss three grievances filed by the Kane Area Education Association on behalf of a few of their members. Just prior to the end of the meeting, all three grievances were denied unanimously by the six board members in attendance.

Corbett visits PA Wilds in effort to promote tourism

BENEZETTE – In an effort to promote tourism, Governor Tom Corbett visited the Elk Country Visitor Center on Thursday afternoon to highlight the Pennsylvania Wilds as a top destination for travelers as well as to mark the 100 years since elk were reintroduced into the region.

Wolves take on another Wolfpack in inaugural game with St. Joe’s

The Kane Wolves will take on a new opponent tonight when they host St. Joseph’s Academy. St. Joe’s is located in Boalsburg, just outside of State College and while the school was opened a few years ago, this is the first season for the football team.

The Kane boys’ soccer team continues to struggle to get in the win column but coaches Ernie Chamberlain and Robert Mosier can still see bright spots during games.

Kane volleyball loses in 3 sets to ECC

ST. MARYS – Although they put up a great fight for most of the match, the Lady Wolves volleyball team fell to the ECC Crusaders in St. Marys in three, 25-16, 25-12, 25-22.

Virginia Turay

Virginia Turay, 87, of 130 Greeves St., died Thursday afternoon, Oct. 10, 2013 at the Kane Community Hospital. Visitation will be on Sunday, Oct. 13 from 2-4 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, Oct. 14 at 11 a.m. at St. Callistus Catholic Church. A full obituary will appear in tomorrow's edition of the paper.

Robert E. Allshouse

Robert E. Allshouse, 64, of 1519 Rte 66 & 948, Russell City, died Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2013 at Kane Community Hospital.
Born Dec. 12, 1948, in Warren, he was a son of the late Theodore and Lulu Vandervoort Allshouse. On May 6, 1971, in Kane, he married Sally Haight who survives.
Mr. Allshouse, who was a 15-year cancer survivor, served with the U.S. Army during the Vietnam era. He had been employed as a monitor at CD Electrodes in St. Marys.
