Margie Rose "Babe" Cherry, age 83, of 5000 Whitehaven Court, Richmond, Va., formerly of Northridge, Calif., died Sunday, Oct. 13, 2013 at Autumn Care, Hanover, Va. following a lengthy illness.
She was born July 2, 1930 in Kane, the daughter of Gustav and Elsie Shaffer Johnson.
She was married to Victor "Vito" Cherry on Jan. 13, 1948 in Johnsonburg. He died Dec. 21, 2000.
She had resided in Virginia since 2009, and formerly lived in California. She graduated from Kane High School in 1947.

Kane Area High School's parking lot was the site of an emergency vehicle operator training class on Sunday.

Kane band wins competition at IUP

This past Saturday, the Kane High School Marching Band traveled to Indiana University of Pennsylvania to compete in the Tournament of Bands Chapter 11 Championship Competition.

15th annual Steve Jerman Memorial 5K Run & 2 Mile Walk

The 15th annual Steve Jerman Memorial 5K Run & 2 Mile Walk was held on Saturday, Oct. 19, in Kane.
A total of 127 participants registered for the event, including 68 runners and 59 walkers. Temperatures in the mid 50s produced excellent running conditions.

Mary A. Bizzak

Mary A. Bizzak, 98, formerly of 317 West Pine Ave., Kane, died Saturday evening, Oct. 19, 2013 at The Lutheran Home at Kane, where she had resided for the past few years.
Born Jan. 14, 1915 in Dahoga, she was the daughter of Joseph and Rose Simcic Ulyan. On June 20, 1936 in Kane, she married Joseph F. Bizzak, who died in 2006.
Mary operated a boarding house in Westline and drove school bus there. She and her husband were in the logging business for many years, and, after her retirement, was a cook in the Chestnut Street Elementary School in Kane.

Margaret L. Shoup

Margaret L. Shoup, 90, of 759 Johnsonburg Road Apt. 14, St. Marys and formerly of Filmore Road died on Sunday, Oct. 20, 2013 at Elk Regional Health Center.
She was born Aug. 22, 1923 in St. Marys, a daughter of the late George and Rose Balaban Mahovlich.
On April 24, 1946 in Sacred Heart Church, she married the late Albert "Bert" Shoup, who preceded her in death on Oct. 9, 1999.

Kane Wolves clinch AML South over Ridgway

Kane football entered Friday's game undefeated and left the same way.
The Wolves also left with the AML South Division crown.
Kane clinched a spot in the AML championship game with a 27-18 win over Ridgway Friday night at Paul R. Miller Stadium to move to 8-0 on the season.

Area police departments present Stranger Danger assembly to students

Members of the Kane and Mt. Jewett Police Departments sponsored a Stranger Danger assembly to the students of the Kane Elementary School on Friday. Co-Principal Jay Israel introduced Mt. Jewett Chief of Police Steve Hale, who made the presentation to the students.
