The Kane Wolves will take on a new opponent tonight when they host St. Josephâ€™s Academy. St. Joeâ€™s is located in Boalsburg, just outside of State College and while the school was opened a few years ago, this is the first season for the football team.
The Kane boysâ€™ soccer team continues to struggle to get in the win column but coaches Ernie Chamberlain and Robert Mosier can still see bright spots during games.
ST. MARYS â€“ Although they put up a great fight for most of the match, the Lady Wolves volleyball team fell to the ECC Crusaders in St. Marys in three, 25-16, 25-12, 25-22.
Virginia Turay, 87, of 130 Greeves St., died Thursday afternoon, Oct. 10, 2013 at the Kane Community Hospital.Â Visitation will be on Sunday, Oct. 13 from 2-4 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, Oct. 14 at 11 a.m. at St. Callistus Catholic Church.Â A full obituary will appear in tomorrow's edition of the paper.
Robert E. Allshouse, 64, of 1519 Rte 66 & 948, Russell City, died Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2013 at Kane Community Hospital.
Born Dec. 12, 1948, in Warren, he was a son of the late Theodore and Lulu Vandervoort Allshouse. On May 6, 1971, in Kane, he married Sally Haight who survives.
Mr. Allshouse, who was a 15-year cancer survivor, served with the U.S. Army during the Vietnam era.Â He had been employed as a monitor at CD Electrodes in St. Marys.
The Curriculum Committee of the Kane Area School Board held a meeting on Wednesday evening to discuss the Pennsylvania School Performance Profile. The profile is intended to provide academic performance measures for each school, helping the schools themselves to identify areas to work on, as well as informing the public of how schools in the Commonwealth compare academically.
MT. JEWETT â€“ The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has removed directional signs at Campbelltown Road and Route 6 in Mt. Jewett.
The Kane girlsâ€™ soccer team kept the momentum from Mondayâ€™s 2-1 win over Brockway going in Wednesdayâ€™s game with Clarion and came away with a hard-fought 2-1 victory on the Lady Wolvesâ€™ home field.
Frank R. "Sonny" Sacherich, 72, of 549 Smithfield Avenue, Kane, died Tuesday morning, October 8, 2013 at The Lutheran Home at Kane, where he had recently resided.
Born August 18, 1941 in Penn Hills, he was the son of Frank J. and Hilma S. Carlson Sacherich.
A peacetime veteran of the U.S. Army for nine years, Mr. Sacherich later worked for Labor Union #603 in Erie in construction, retiring in 2001. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Kane as well.
MT. JEWETT â€“ Police officer Steve Hale has been honored for making numerous DUI arrests in 2012 in Kane and Mt. Jewett.
Hale, the police chief in Mt. Jewett and a part-time policeman in Kane, made 37 arrests in 2012 for driving under the influence (DUI)--Â either alcohol or drugs.
