DuBOISâ€”DuBois Lanes hosted the second District 4 youth gold pin tournament Sunday afternoon with Cycloneâ€™s Wayne Putnam claiming the title.

QUEHANNA â€“Â Jim Scharnitz of Northampton got to have the experience of a lifetime on Monday morning as he successfully harvested a 7x6 bull elk while hunting with his father and guides from Elk County Outfitters.
QUEHANNA â€“Â As of just after 3 p.m. on Monday afternoon a total of 17 elk had been brought to the Pennsylvania Game Commission's elk check station in Quehanna. The animals were all harvested on the opening day of this year's elk hunt and consisted of seven bulls and 10 cows. The 17 tags were among 86 awarded to hunters this year, with 26 tags being drawn for antlered elk and 60 for antlerless.
Many local races are featured Tuesday in the general election.
Polls are open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Some of the key races include a contest for four seats on the Kane School Board, seats on borough council in both Kane and Mt. Jewett, two seats on the Board of Supervisors in Highland Township and contests for tax collector in Kane and Highland Township.

M. Joyce Maljovec, 84, of 401 W. Hemlock Ave., Kane, died Friday, Nov. 1, 2013 at the Cleveland Clinic.
Born March 26, 1929, in Kane, she was a daughter of the late Leo and Marguerite West McKenna. On Nov. 25, 1950, at St. Callistus ChurchÂ in Kane, she married Joseph J. Maljovec Sr. who survives.
Mrs. Maljovec was a member of St. Callistus Catholic Church. In 2006, she received the papal honor of Ladies of Pope St. Sylvester for her dedication and service to the Catholic Church.Â Before retirement, Joyce had workedÂ as a registered nurse at Kane Community Hospital.
The Kane Wolves won the Allegheny Mountain League title with a 36-6 win over Sheffield on Friday night at Paul R Miller Stadium. The Wolverines, buoyed by a big contingent of fans that made the 18-mile trip up state Route 6, trailed only 14-0 at the half, but the Wolves were too much for the visitors in the second half and went on to win their fourth league title since 2000.
