Don L. Blauser

Don L. Blauser, 56, of 15 School St. in East Kane, died early Friday morning, Dec. 13, 2013 at his residence.
Born Nov. 27, 1957 in Kane, he was the son of William A. and Hazel B. Slagle Blauser. On Nov. 27, 1982 in Kane, he married Amy E. Park, who survives.
Mr. Blauser worked at Kane Magnetics for 27 years, and enjoyed watching sports.

Questions still arise on Kane borough budget

The Kane Borough Council earlier this week voted 7-0 to adopt a final budget for 2014.
Council President Howard Kane joined with Councilwomen Janet Bard and Holly Harris and Councilmen Dennis Drost, Del Cleer, John Gentilman and Tom Kase to approve the spending plan.

Volunteers to place Christmas lights at gazebo

Kim Cecchetti will be leading a team of volunteers to place Christmas lights on the gazebo at Evergreen Park in Kane.
Cecchetti said the lighting project would begin at 10 a.m. Saturday. More volunteers are needed.

No one hurt in hit-run accident in Kane

No one was hurt Thursday evening in a two-vehicle hit-and-run accident in Kane.

John P. Straneva

John P. Straneva, 86, of 25 Water St., Ludlow, died Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2013 at his residence.
Born Jan. 8, 1927, in Ludlow, he was a son of the late Stephen and Katherine Patilla Straneva. On Dec. 3, 1960, at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Sheffield, he married Patrika M. Erikson who survives.
During World War II, Mr. Straneva served in the Merchant Marines. After 50 years of service, he retired as a foreman from National Forge.

Helen K. Micheau

Helen K. Micheau, 89, of  108 Wetmore Ave., Kane, died Thursday, Dec. 12, 2013 at Warren Manor in Warren.
Born April 6, 1924, in Kane, she was a daughter of the late Arthur and Verna Tussey Wade. On Jan. 5, 1946, in Kane, she married Clarence W. Micheau who preceded her in death.
Mrs. Micheau, a graduate of the Kane High School, class of 1942, was an active member of the First United Methodist Church where she belonged to the United Methodist Women, the Joanna Circle, and served as a trustee.  She also was a member of the choir for 40 years.

Highland roadmaster's pension is in question

JAMES CITY –A move is underway to try and strip the state pension from Charlie Vaughn, the Highland Township roadmaster and former supervisor.
Supervisor Paul Burton Sr. said Wednesday that an inquiry about the pension for Vaughn has been sent to David Pontzer. 

Advice is given on handling violent patients

Nurses and staff at Kane Community Hospital should be prepared to face patients who become violent or aggressive.
"You have to be on your 'A' game all the time," State Police Trooper Bruce Morris said Wednesday in presentations at the hospital cafeteria. "You need to recognize signs of violence."

Bloodmobile visit to Kane fails to meet goal

The weather was nasty outside and the Bloodmobile held Monday in Kane failed to reach its goal of collecting 32 full units of blood.
The American Red Cross Bloodmobile visit collected 29 full units of blood.

Lady Wolves defeat Sheffield in home opener

The Kane Lady Wolves basketball team played their only December home game on Wednesday night and made the most of the home court advantage, defeating Sheffield by a 65-37 score. Coach Dave Kiehl’s Lady Wolves scored the final 10 points of the first half to break open a tight game and went on to win to even their record at 1-1 on the season.
