JOHNSONBURG - A Ridgway man charged with robbing a Johnsonburg bank at gunpoint was in Magisterial District Court on Wednesday where he waived his preliminary hearing on felony charges stemming from the Jan. 8 incident.
Kane track and field coach Jim Sirianni announced that Sam Cummings Jr. recently donated a race timer to the Wolvesâ track and field program.
The Kane Wolvesâ wrestling team hosted the Bradford Owls on Tuesday night but it was a short night for both teams as only four matches were decided on the mat. Kane won three of the four bouts wrestled, with all three coming via pin.
The Community Blood Bank collects blood on the fourth Tuesday of every other month at the Kane Area Community Center. The next blood collection at the center is Tuesday, March 26 from noon to 5 p.m. The Community Blood Bank will hold a collection Thursday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Kane Community Hospital. Donors are welcome and needed due to the critical shortage of blood, especially "O" negative, a Blood Bank spokesman said. The Blood Bank supplies blood to area hospitals, including Kane Community Hospital.
The Elk County Catholic Crusaders held the Kane Wolves to only 11 first half points in Mondayâs game in the Wolvesâ Den. The Wolves played a better second half with the two teams playing pretty evenly the rest of the way but the Crusaders left town with a 59-41 win.
The Elk County Catholic Lady Crusaders used a strong third quarter to outscore the Kane Lady Wolves by a 10-4 margin then played Kane even in the fourth quarter to hold on for a 38-36 victory.
A fire Monday evening caused extensive damage at a two-story house in Kane. Tim Holt, chief of the Kane Volunteer Fire Department, estimated damage at $65,000 to the house and contents. No injuries were reported.
The Kane Borough Sewer Authority is preparing to take "the next step" to sell sewer water to drillers for area Marcellus Shale natural gas wells.
The Kane Cheer Club went to Keystone on Saturday and came home in second place in small varsity and also won the Sportsmanship Award from the entire afternoon session. "It was good to finally get the beginning and end of our routine," said coach Chris Niklaus.
