The Kane Lady Wolves completely dominated the second half Friday in a convincing 52-37 girls basketball home win over rival Johnsonburg.Â

On a night where everything seemed to be going in, the Johnsonburg Rams (8-1) stretched their winning streak to four games.
The Kane Elementary School implemented the nationally-acclaimed "Success For All" (SFA) program last year in an effort to improve student reading skills.

Public outcry from pet owners whose dogs have become ill or died after consuming chicken jerky treats imported from China is on the rise. Numerous online petitions, advocacy groups, chat forums and Facebook groups have cropped up within the past year, with their efforts aimed primarily at having the treats removed from stores.
Arthur A. Paulson Jr., 82, of 1 Anderson St., Mt. Jewett, passed away Thursday, Jan. 3, 2013 at Kane Community Hospital.
Born Nov. 7, 1930, in Mt. Jewett, he was a son of Arthur A. and Emma Mae Smith Paulson Sr. On May 21, 1955, in Mt. Jewett, he married Alice Aderman who survives.
Mr. Paulson had been employed at Dresser Manufacturing and Howes Leather Company. Later, he worked for National Fuel Gas for 32 years, retiring on March 6, 1993. He also owned Paulson's Disposal Service in Mt. Jewett for nearly 50 years and drove ambulance for several years.
Susan Lynn Rose Lundberg, age 59, of 111 Jackson Ave., Warren, died on Thursday Jan. 3, 2013 at the John & Orpha Blair Hospice Residence in Warren. Sue displayed tremendous strength and courage as she fought cancer over the last year, inspiring people she touched every day.  Â
Born on July 20, 1953 in Kane, Sue was the daughter of Norman and Marilyn (Jones) Rose.
Thomas J. Collin, 79, formerly of Kane, passed away at Freedom Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center, The Villages, Florida, on Dec. 19, 2012, after a brief illness.
Born Feb. 6, 1933, in Kane, he was a son of Stanley and Mary Hargett Collin.
Tom was a graduate of Kane High School, Class of 1953. He served in the U.S. Army.
For 29 years he was a professional truck driver. He later retired from Falconer Glass Industries in 1992 which was also the year he and his wife, Jan, retired to The Villages.
He belonged to St. Timothy Catholic Church, the Kane Country Club and the Penn State Club.

WEEDVILLE - The Pennsylvania Game Commission (PGC) unveiled a new plan to trap and remove elk from Weedville at a raucous public meeting held Thursday night at the Bennetts Valley Senior Center.
Even though it's a new year, some things remain unchanged. Despite testimonials that some chicken jerky dog treats imported from China have caused serious illness and even death, they still remain on store shelves.
Laverne "Jack" Vanderneck, 85, of 162 Delaware Ave., James City, passed away at his residence on Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2013.
Born Aug. 25, 1927, in Halsey, he was a son of Gus and Mame Freeman Vanderneck. On June 19, 1948, in James City, he married Millie Punk, who preceded him in death.
Mr. Vanderneck was an operations engineer for Tennecco. During World War II, he served as a gunner aboard the Newman K. Perry.
He was a member of St. Callistus Catholic Church, the Kane Senior Center, The Knights of Columbus Council #715, and the Kane VFW Lodge #1132.
