March 13th
BRADFORD â On March 1, 2013, the McKean County Special Olympic athletes from Kane School District participated in the Swim Invitational at the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford. There were a total of 21 swimmers representing the Kane School District. These athletes have been practicing since Jan. 9. They were coached by Angela Sorg. Each swimmer was in a heat according to age and abilities. Swimmers representing all around McKean County, Elk/Cameron County and Potter County were in attendance.
March 12th
The deteriorating condition of the Kane High School swimming pool left the school board with a major dilemma.
The school district could either undertake major renovations or eliminate the pool.
SMETHPORT â One down and one to go.
The McKean County Board of Commissioners voted 3-0 Tuesday to approve a new three-year contract with the 15 union workers at the county 911 emergency center.
Margaret J. Reynolds, 66, of 120 Fraley St., passed away Monday, March 11, 2013 at Elk Haven Nursing Home in St. Marys.
Born July 14, 1946, in Warren, she was a daughter of the late Russell and Melva Roades Seth Sr.
Mrs. Reynolds had worked as an aide at the Lutheran Home at Kane. Prior to that, she had been employed by Sylvania and the former Kane Diner.
She was a member of the Kane VFW Lodge #1132, the Fraternal Order of the Eagles Aerie # 307, and had belonged to the former Moose Club in Kane.
March 11th
HAZEL HURST â A delay in obtaining right-of-way easements could delay work for the proposed Lantz Corners Sewer District.
"Young Lungs At Play" signs soon will be erected at Kane borough parks, which are now "tobacco-free zones."
The Kane Borough Council voted 4-2 Monday to adopt a policy that bans cigarette and cigar smoking, chewing tobacco and snuff in borough parks.
Nedra Marie Rooney, of Erie, passed away Friday, March 1, 2013 at Forestview Health Care Center at Springhill.
She was born OCt. 23, 1917 in Kane to the late Edward J. and Alice Retzer Powell. Nedra graduated from Wilcox High School in 1935 where she was salutatorian and received a BS in Education from Villa Maria College in 1960. Previously she had attended Lock Haven Teacherâs College (University) and the University of Alabama.
March 10th
CLARION â Kane wrestler Evan Delong came up short in his quest for a PIAA state championship on Saturday. The Wolvesâ junior had an impressive run to the finals where he took on last yearâs state runner-up, Cody Law, in the 160 pound finals.
For the past 55 years, Milford âMillieâ Kearney has been an active member of the Kane Volunteer Fire Department.
March 8th
HERSHEY â Kane's Evan Delong advanced to this afternoon's PIAA finals with a 7-6 win over Tri Valley's Ty Schoffstall in the state semifinals. Delong won his quarterfinal match in the 160-pound weight class against Benton's Jeric Kasunic on Friday morning in Hershey to assure himself of bringing home a state medal.
