Rosalia Salerno

Rosalia Salerno, 85, of Bradford, passed away on Sunday, Feb. 24, 2013 at the Pavilion at Bradford Regional Medical Center.
She was born Aug.17, 1927 in San Fratello, Italy, a daughter of the late Benedetto and Carmela Franchina Artino.
Mrs. Salerno immigrated to America in 1960 with her son. Her first sight of America was the Statue of Liberty, from the railing of a passenger ship, on a very cloudy and cold January day.

Donna L. Carlsson

Donna L. Carlsson, 74, of Haycock Twp., Bucks County, formerly of Kane, passed away unexpectedly Sunday morning, March 3, 2013 in St. Luke’s Hospital, Bethlehem.
Born Nov. 10, 1938 in Chicago, she was the daughter of Fred and Edna Larson Wirth. She married the Rev. Dr. Andrew E. Carlsson, with whom she celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary last August.

Delong earns 100th win at regionals

SHARON – A pair of Kane wrestlers are in the regional semifinals after the first day of action at the Northwest Regional Championships at Sharon High School.
Cody Blankenship of Kane advanced at 113 pounds and Evan Delong went to the semis at 160 pounds.

Lady Wolves fall to Brookville in title game

CLARION – The fifth time wasn’t a charm for the Kane Lady Wolves basketball team. The 2012-2013 Lady Wolves tried to win the program’s first district title in five trips to the finals on Friday night in the Class AA championship game against Brookville but came up on the short end of a 63-51 decision.

Church Women discuss their 'Gifts Through God'

The Church Women United of Kane held its March meeting Friday at the Emmanuel Mission Church in Kane.
The theme for the luncheon program was "Recognizing Our Gifts Through God's Presence."
About 50 women from seven Kane churches attended the event.

Milliard taken into federal custody

JEFFERSON CO. - A Ridgway man headed to trial on arson, attempted murder and drug charges in Elk County has been remanded into federal custody by the U.S. Marshals Office on weapons charges filed against him and a Johnsonburg man in federal court.

Lady Wolves look for first district title

The Kane Lady Wolves basketball team will take on the Brookville Lady Raiders in tonight’s District 9 AA Championship game. The contest is set to begin at 6 p.m. in Clarion University’s Tippin Gymnasium.

Marjorie J. "Jean"  Russell,  85, beloved mother and grandmother, passed away Thursday morning, Feb. 28, 2013 at the Lutheran Home at Kane where she had resided for the past 18 months.
Born June 8, 1927, in Frewsburg, N.Y., she was a daughter of the late Bertel and Gladys Davidson Carlson. On May 15, 1948, at Moriah Lutheran Church in Ludlow, she married Hyle L. Russell who preceded her in death on Nov. 23, 1963.
