Brian L. Horton

Brian L. Horton, 44, of Park Avenue Ext., Kane, died unexpectedly Saturday afternoon, May 11, 2013 at his residence.
Born October 12, 1968 in Kane, he was the son of Phyllis A. Horton.
Brian had worked at Kane Hardwood.
Surviving are his mother and stepfather, Phyllis and Ronald Fitch of Kane; and two brothers, James M. Horton of Kane and Mark R. Horton of Corry.
Services will be held privately at the family's convenience.  Memorial contributions may be made to a church or charity of the donor's choice.

'Army' of volunteers turns out for 'KARE For Kane'

An "army" of volunteers turned out Friday for the third annual "KARE For Kane" program to spruce up the community.
Those who stepped forward to volunteer consider the activity a labor of love.

Hubbers defeat Wolves at home

The Kane Wolves’ baseball team trailed the Smethport Hubbers 10-6 going into the top of the seventh inning before the storm hit. While Mother Nature unleashed terrific winds and driving rain as the game was called, the visiting Hubbers unleashed a barrage at the plate, scoring seven runs before the game was called with the score 17-6.

School board OKs proposed budget with tax hike

The Kane School Board voted 8-0 Thursday to approve a tentative 2013-14 budget that carries a .35-mill increase in the property tax rate.

Viola M. Swedenhjelm

Viola M. Swedenhjelm, 73, of 33 Tionesta Ave., Kane, died Wednesday afternoon, May 8, 2013 at the Kane Community Hospital.
Born Jan. 8, 1940 in Kane, she was the daughter of Harry B. and Helen A. Herron Umpleby. On Aug. 8, 1959 in Kane, she married Lawrence A. Swedenhjelm, who survives.
A member of the First United Methodist Church, Viola worked at Stackpole for many years until its closure, then was a dietary aide at the Residential Care Center, and lastly, at The Lutheran Home at Kane, retiring in 2007.

Lady Wolves rally to defeat DCC in extra innings

The Kane Lady Wolves trailed DuBois Central Catholic Lady Cardinals 2-0 going into the bottom of the seventh inning on Wednesday at Szymanski Field. The Lady Wolves rallied to tie it up in the bottom of the seventh and wound up winning in the bottom of the eighth to improve their record to 10-4 on the season.
