Area residents push limits to become 'Tough Mudders'

Some people make a goal of competing in a 5K road race or a marathon or even a triathlon. For most people, that would be challenging enough, but for a group of area residents, those pursuits aren’t extreme enough. Several area residents have decided to enter the Tough Mudder challenge.

Teacher Jeff Gibbs faces 10-day suspension

Kane School District Superintendent Dr. Maryann Anderson has suspended high school teacher Jeff Gibbs for alleged violations of school policy.
According to sources, Gibbs reportedly has been suspended for 10 days and won’t be teaching Tuesday when classes resume.

Ribbon-cutting for Integrity Martial Arts Academy

Nathan and Regina Sherman are surrounded by students, instructors and their children as the ribbon is cut for one of Kane's new businesses, Integrity Martial Arts Academy. Sensei Sherman began offering classes in Kane last fall at the Kane Community Center.

Sandra V. Chandler

Sandra V. Chandler, 72, of 876 West Washington St., passed away Thursday, Aug. 22, 2013 at UPMC Hamot Medical Center in Erie. 
Born Aug. 17, 1941 in Olean, N.Y., she was a daughter of the late Arthur and Lorraine (Anderson) Peterson.
On July 8, 1961, at Bradford, she married Edward C. Chandler, who preceded her in death on Aug. 14, 2012.
She was a 1960 graduate of Bradford High School.
Mrs. Chandler worked for Corning Glass Works and later, Bradford Electronics until her retirement in 2001.  

Joseph F. Bonfilio

Joseph F. Bonfilio, 90, of 316 Janeway St., passed away early Thursday, Aug. 22, 2013 at the Lutheran Home at Kane.
Born Oct. 21, 1922, in Kane, he was a son of Frank and Mary Zimmero Bonfilio.
Mr. Bonfilio worked for the Kane Borough as the park superintendent. He was a member of St. Callistus Catholic Church and had been a member of the VFW, American Legion, Sons of Italy and the Eagles.
He served with the 384th Fighter Squadron in the Army Air Force during World War II  and was with the Infantry in the Korean War.
