Members of a group of Kane residents called “Concerned Parents of KASD” met on Tuesday evening to discuss the group’s strategy for the Thursday night Kane Area School Board meeting.

County commissioners OK same rate for 911 center

SMETHPORT – The McKean County Board of Commissioners voted 3-0 Tuesday to renew an agreement for the 911 emergency call center.

John H. McNeil memorial service

August 13, 2013

Friends and family of John H. McNeil are invited to attend a memorial service at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Kane Revival Center, 401 Greeves St., with the Rev. Leonard Eastman, pastor, officiating. Refreshments will be served at the Kane Senior Center following the service. Mr. McNeil passed away July 21, 2013. The Cummings Funeral Home, Inc. is in charge of arrangements.

Carl W. Cook

Carl W. Cook, 80, of 1102 Horner Rd., Wilcox, died Friday morning, Aug. 9, 2013 at Elk Regional Health Center in St. Marys following a brief illness.
He was born July 7, 1933 in Hazel Hurst, son of the late Carl R. and Lillian Dippo Cook.
He married Beverly Marlene Johnson on Nov. 20, 1954 in the Wilcox Presbyterian Church, and she survives.
Formerly of James City, he resided in Wilcox since 1958. He graduated from Kane High School and was a member of the Wilcox Presbyterian Church and Wilcox Sportsmen's Club.

Lantz Corners sewer project to begin this month

HAZEL HURST – The long-awaited construction of a sewage collection system for Lantz Corners is expected to begin this month.
Dan Slagle, a Pittsburgh-based engineer who designed the system, said financing is in place to begin construction of the $2.7-million project.

Kane council to seek new bids for park work

The Kane Borough Council voted 6-1 Monday to seek new bids for upgrades at Evergreen Park.

Nancy Sue Goodwin, formerly of Kane, died of cancer on Aug. 8, 2013.
She was born Oct. 25, 1938 in Kane, in the heart of the Allegheny Mountains. Her father was Berrier Peterson, a logger and a carpenter. She worked at the soda fountain at Bush's Pharmacy, had a dog named Leach and was the Queen of the Hunt one year in high school.

Michael J. Kennedy, 19, of 641 East Center St., Johnsonburg, died early Sunday morning, Aug. 11, 2013 due to injuries sustained in an automobile accident near Kane.
Born Aug. 21, 1993 in Kronach, Germany, he was the son of Joseph C. and Tanja L. Kirch Kennedy.
A 2012 graduate of Johnsonburg High School, he was employed by Kane Manufacturing. Michael belonged to Tabor Lutheran Church in Kane, the Grey Knights Drum & Bugle Corps in Johnsonburg, and had been a member of the Ruffed Grouse Society.
