Citizens’ group calls for police chief to resign

An organized community action group known as the Concerned Citizens of Kane is calling for Police Chief Brian Hillard to resign in the wake of criminal charges filed against him.
“He’s a disgrace to our community because of his actions,” Mick Petruney said Wednesday in explaining why the citizens’ group is asking Hillard to step down as police chief. “He should resign.”

Ladys Wolves drop road match in 5 sets to Dutch

ST. MARYS – In their opening match of the season, the Kane Lady Wolves took the St. Marys Dutch to five sets but fell just short of an exciting win.
The Dutch took the first set 25-20 but the Wolves bounced back for a 25-17 win. The momentum carried into set three where the Wolves won 25-19.  In a back and forth contest to the very end, the Dutch took set four 25-23 and then won the final set 15-11.

Kane Mayor Doug Caldwell announced Tuesday that he has suspended Police Chief Brian Hillard, who is facing criminal charges for allegedly falsifying state firearms training documents.

Mt. Jewett plans road repairs at water plant

MT. JEWETT – Repairs are planned for the unpaved road leading to the Mt. Jewett water treatment plant off Route 6 east of the borough.
The borough council discussed the issue Tuesday at its meeting at the borough building on Center Street.

St. Marys woman dies from rifle wound

ST. MARYS – A 48-year-old woman is dead after reportedly being gunned down early Tuesday morning at Eastern Sintered Alloys in St. Marys.
According to an affidavit of probable case filed in the case, Michael J. Stephanic Jr., age 44, faces multiple charges including criminal homicide, two felony counts of aggravated assault and a felony charge of discharge of a firearm into an occupied structure.
