ST. MARYS â€“ In their opening match of the season, the Kane Lady Wolves took the St. Marys Dutch to five sets but fell just short of an exciting win.
The Dutch took the first set 25-20 but the Wolves bounced back for a 25-17 win.Â The momentum carried into set three where the Wolves won 25-19.Â In a back and forth contest to the very end, the Dutch took set four 25-23 and then won the final set 15-11.
Connie L. Bigley, 66, of 130 Greeves St., passed away Tuesday, Sept. 3, 2013 at UPMC Altoona.

ST. MARYS â€“ A 48-year-old woman is dead after reportedly being gunned down early Tuesday morning at Eastern Sintered Alloys in St. Marys.
According to an affidavit of probable case filed in the case, Michael J. Stephanic Jr., age 44, faces multiple charges including criminal homicide, two felony counts of aggravated assault and a felony charge of discharge of a firearm into an occupied structure.
The Elk County Catholic Crusader cross country squad opened their dual meet season with a 23-32 loss to the visiting Kane Wolves on Tuesday afternoon at Benzinger Park. The Lady Crusaders ran unopposed as Kane did not have enough runners to field a team.
George L. McCloskey, 83, of 159 W. Main St., Mt. Jewett, passed away early Tuesday, Sept. 3, 2013 at Sena-Kean Manor.
Born April 16, 1930, in Snow Shoe, he was a son ofÂ the late Lester and Olive McCracken McCloskey.Â On Oct. 3, 1952, in Hazel Hurst, he married Marilyn Smith who preceded him in death.Â For most of his life, Mr. McCloskey was a logger and retired from Penn Mountain Logging in 2005 at the age of 75. His favorite pastime was repairing small engines.
FOX TWP. â€“ A 50-year-old St. Marys man died late Monday night after being hit by an SUV on state Route 255, according to police reports.
Edward Joshnik reported walked onto SR 255 near Laurel Run Road shortly after 11 p.m. Monday and was struck by a Ford Escape.
He was later pronounced dead at Elk Regional Health center.
Police said the driver of the SUV will not be charged.
ST. MARYS â€“ St. Marys City Police report arresting 44-year-old Michael J. Stephanic following the death of 48-year-old June Talmadge, also known as June Andrus.
Stephanic, of St. Marys, has reportedly been arraigned on charges of criminal homicide and aggravated assault, and has been remanded to the Elk County Prison.
The incident reportedly took place early Tuesday morning at 2:40 a.m. at Eastern Sintered Alloys at 126 Access Rd.
The investigation is continuing.
SHEFFIELD â€“ The Kane Wolves football team opened up the 2013 season with a convincing 34-6 win over the Sheffield Wolverines in Sheffield on Saturday afternoon. The Wolves offense used a balanced attack while the defense forced five Wolverine turnovers on a hot and humid afternoon.
