I have seen many strange things while on my photographic adventures, but nothing that couldnâ€™t be explained. No, Iâ€™ve never seen a Bigfoot, or for that matter, have never seen a mountain lion. The nature Iâ€™ve photographed for the last decade or two, have been pretty down to earth, easily explainable. Yes, I would love to get that first crystal clear shot of a Bigfoot, or that image of that Pennsylvania mountain lion.
Joseph F. Bonfilio, 90, of 316 Janeway St., passed away early Thursday, Aug. 22, 2013 at the Lutheran Home at Kane.
Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by the Cummings Funeral Home, Inc.
JAMES CITY â€“ Elk County President Judge Richard A. Masson may be asked again to fill a vacancy on the Highland Township Board of Supervisors.
The Kane Borough Councilâ€™s finance committee held a public input meeting on Tuesday evening at the Kane Borough building to listen to suggestions from Kane citizens concerning the 2014 budget.
Sixteen citizens joined committee chairperson Janet Bard, committee member Holly Harris, committee member Den Drost, council secretary Lori Feldbauer and Mayor Doug Caldwell, who observed the proceedings.
With 3,000 visitors to the St. Marys Municipal Airport's inaugural American Spirit Aviation Festival last year, Alan McPherson, airport manager, is hoping to continue the successful event again this year.
"We had more people than we actually expected," McPherson said of the large crowd. "We want to thank all of Elk County for turning out for the event. They really came out to support us and it was a great thing."
Linda L. Anderson, 71, formerly of 421 North Tionesta Ave., Kane, died Tuesday morning, Aug. 20, 2013 at The Lutheran Home at Kane, where she resided.
Born Aug. 14, 1941 in Kane, she was the daughter of Lyle L. and Nelle M. Kemp Fay.Â On Aug. 5, 1961 in Kane, she married Edward C. Anderson, who died April 9, 2013.
An EMT, she operated the Kane Ambulance for several years, then spent five years in Saudi Arabia as an EMT.Â She was a thoughtful, caring, loving mother to her children, and enjoyed being with her family, reading and watching TV.Â
Much of the action taken last week by the Kane School Board is linked with the start of the new school year.
Not too long ago, Kaneâ€™s uptown seemed as though it had as many empty storefronts as it did occupied ones. Fortunately, during the past few months, a few fledgling entrepreneurs took a chance on Kane and opened up businesses.
EAST SMETHPORT â€“ Emily Housler of Lantz Corners is the McKean County Fair Queen for 2013-14.
She was chosen Saturday night at the Queen Coronation Contest at the Mini Stage at the county fairgrounds in East Smethport.
Competitors in the First Annual Kornhole 5K Run/ 2 Mile Walk/ Beer Belly Dash are pictured on Saturday after the races. Mary Dinger was the overall winner of the 5K, crossing the finish line in a time of 22:54. The race was in memory of Kevin Lindquist and all proceeds benefitted Elks charities.
