Marlys Carmen Adams Perry

Marlys Perry, 68, of Kane, passed away on June 28, 2013, of cancer. 
She was born Jan. 14, 1945, and grew up in California, where she graduated from La Sierra Acadamy in 1963. 
Her greatest joy in life was raising her children. She also enjoyed her career as a traveling nurse. Marlys loved Jesus Christ, was eager to be the person she felt Jesus wanted her to be, and enjoyed sharing her Seventh Day Adventist beliefs with others. She loved travel, the beach, fishing trips, friends, family, and watching her grandchildren participate in sports.

Students hold demonstration to support teacher

Hoisting huge hand-made signs and banging drums, Kane school students held a public demonstration Tuesday to protest possible disciplinary action against teacher Jeff Gibbs.

Large crowd attends 'Parent Informational Meeting'

A crowd estimated at 350 attended a "Parent Informational Meeting" held Tuesday at the Kane Middle School auditorium.

2013 Swedish Festival Queen candidates

The two candidates for the 2013 Swedish Festival Queen are pictured with last year's queen, Maya Huckabone. Haley Williams, pictured on the left, is the 15-year-old daughter of Bobbie Williams and a student at Kane Area High School. Brynn Howard, pictured to the right of Huckabone, is the daughter of Ted Howard and Karen Howard. The 13-year-old is a student of Smethport Area School District. The festival will begin at 6 p.m. on Friday with the crowning of the festival king and queen and conclude at 6 p.m. on Sunday evening.

Gary L. Dean, 61, of Virginia Avenue, James City, passed away Friday, Aug. 2, 2013 at UPMC Hamot.
Born March 13, 1952, in Kane, he was a son of John and Margaret Oyler Dean.
Mr. Dean had previously worked for Bethlehem Steel, JH Williams Tool Company and various lumber mills.
Surviving, in addition to his mother of James City, are a son Timothy Dean of Smethport; three brothers, John (Mary) Dean of James City, Mike (Celeste) Dean of Buffalo, N.Y., and Bruce (Linda) Dean of Kane. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Ribbon-cutting at Zanadu

Anne Park-Herzog gets ready to cut the ribbon for uptown Kane's newest store, Zanadu, on Saturday. The store, which is located in the former Archer's building, features a variety of craft supplies, including fabrics, sewing machines and accessories, ceramics, consignment items and children's craft kits.

Pennsylvania rolls to 53-12 win in Big 30 Game

BRADFORD – The high powered Pennsylvania offense rolled up more than 600 yards on offense as they rolled to an impressive 53-12 win over the New York All-Stars on Saturday night at Bradford’s Parkway field in the Don Raabe Big 30 Charity Classic.
