Kane Fish and Game Club holds annual Big Buck Contest

The Kane Fish and Game Club held their annual Big Buck Contest on Monday night at their clubhouse on Dwight’s Road. Eight hunters entered the contest, which was held during a steady drizzle that turned to snow by the end of the night.

Santa Parade

Santa and Mrs. Claus braved the chilly weather to visit the children in Kane on Saturday afternoon. After taking part in the parade, Santa dropped into the Kane Community Center to listen to Christmas wishes.

A ‘Silent Night’ with no elementary Christmas concert

There will be a “Silent Night” this year as the Kane Elementary School musicians will not have their traditional Christmas concert.
For years, band and orchestra members in the elementary school have performed on stage before their families at a Christmas concert in a jam-packed Kane Middle School auditorium.

ERIE – Dr. Maryann Anderson, superintendent of the Kane Area School District, has issued a statement linked with a federal probe involving her previous job with the Millcreek Township School District (MTSD) near Erie.

Jean Richardson, 84, of 86 Richardson Ln., Kane, died Wednesday morning, Nov. 27, 2013 at the Lutheran Home at Kane.
Born Nov. 13, 1929 in Parker, she was the daughter of Melvin and Helen Hackett Sloan. On Nov. 24, 1978 in Kane, she married Floyd L. Richardson, who died in 1999.
A homemaker, Jean was an avid gardener.
She is survived by three sons, Ronald R. Kerr of Atlanta, Ga., Jerry Richter of Pontiac, Mich. and Thomas Kerr of Kane, plus four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Helge Peterson, 92, of 5 Pete Ln., Mt. Jewett, died peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2013.
Born June 8, 1921, in Mt. Jewett, he was a son of  the late Ernest and Anna Peterson. On April 19, 1947, in Johnsonburg, he married Patricia Parana who survives.
Before his retirement in 1979, he had been employed by National Fuel. He was a member of the Mt. Jewett VFW Post 6347 and American Legion Post 574 as well as St. Joseph's Catholic Church.
During World War II, he served in the U.S. Air Force.

All alone? Come to Eagles Club for Thanksgiving

No one in the Kane area should go without a Thanksgiving dinner.
That’s because the Kane Eagles Club once again is offering a free meal Thursday to anyone who has no place else to go for Thanksgiving.
“If you have nowhere to go for Thanksgiving, come join us at the Eagles,” Barb Gadley-Cheeks said. “Just come in and eat.”

Slippery roads hamper Kane area travel plans

Slippery roads today will be hampering Thanksgiving travel plans in the Kane area.
“You’re getting a snowstorm,” John LaCorte said Tuesday in describing what’s in store today for Kane area motorists. He’s a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in State College.
