SMETHPORT – McKean County is seeking proposals for the use of nearly $540,000 in Marcellus Shale gas well revenue.
Joe DeMott, chairman of the county Board of Commissioners, said Friday the revenue is from the state Act 13 impact fee paid by drillers of Marcellus Shale gas wells.
The county itself will use some of this Act 13 revenue balance, which has built up over a two-year period. However, the bulk of the remaining pot will go for eligible projects throughout the county, DeMott said.

In Part I of my adventure of searching for my first ever sighting of a Snowy Owl, I had gotten many reports of owl sightings in the area. The most credible were the sightings of many owls at Presque Isle State Park in Erie. In late December of 2012 I had driven to Presque Isle for a possible sighting, only to return home cold, wet, and without any visual evidence of any Snowy Owls in the park. By January of 2013 owl sightings were not even mentioned by any media, or for that fact, any local bird clubs. I gave up my quest for the owls, and moved on to other projects.
