Talent shines at Kane High School musical

See and hear for yourself by attending a performance of "Bye Bye Birdie"-- this year's Kane High School musical.
A large crowd jammed the 650-seat high school auditorium Thursday night for the first of four performances. There are shows tonight and Saturday night at 7 p.m. and a matinee at 2 p.m. Sunday.

Plans are made for Summer School in Kane

Snow may still be on the ground, but plans already are being made for Summer School classes in Kane.
The elementary school Summer School will run in two sessions from June 23 to Aug. 1. The first session is from June 23 to July 3. The second session is from July 14 to Aug. 1.

Lady Wolves ready to hit the diamond

Outside practices have been extremely limited this preseason for Kane coach Judy Kessler’s softball team. With Mother Nature not cooperating and the Flickerwood field still covered in snow a week before the scheduled home opener, the Lady Wolves have been practicing in the gym and in the Kane High School parking lot trying to get prepared for the season. Despite the lack of outdoor playing time, coach Kessler said the girls are still excited for practice every day.

The Kane Lady Wolves track and field team placed second at last year’s District 9 AA meet. While the team lost some very talented athletes to graduation, this year’s team has head coach Jim Sirianni anxiously awaiting the start of the season and hoping to equal or better last season’s runner-up finish.

Kane boys track and field team ready to get season underway

Kane boys’ track coach Tom Cecchetti welcomes back 17 letter-winners from last year’s District 9 AA Championship squad. In addition to the letter-winners, the Wolves’ veteran coach has 30 more boys that reported for the first practice of the season.

Kane baseball team under new leadership

Bruce Kumher will be wearing a new hat several days a week for the next couple months. Kumher, who is a minister from Mt. Jewett, will be taking over the reins of the Kane Wolves’ baseball team this season. Joining him in the dugout is Steve Peterson, who was on the coaching staff last season when Josh Lindemuth was in charge. When Lindemuth elected not to return to the post this season, Kumher stepped in to fill the void.

Anderson named to All-State Team

Kane's Nick Anderson has been named to the Pennsylvania Track and Field Coaches' Association's All-State team for his performance during the indoor track season.

School outlines its policies against bullies

The Kane Area School District has policies in place to deal with bullies and students who engage in harassment and hazing.
Dr. Maryann Anderson, superintendent of the school district, said the policies are part of the school code found on the district's website on the internet.
