Ridgway baseball wins second straight

Ridgway baseball used a nine-run second inning to break Monday's game open in a 16-5 five-inning victory over Kane Monday afternoon at Sandy Beach Recreational Park.

Ethel Mae Chappo, 86, of Kane, died Monday, April 28, 2014.
She was born Aug. 8, 1927, in Carnegie, a daughter of Trevor George Davis and Gertrude Blanche Stevens.
Mrs. Chappo worked in the laundry service at the Washington Hospital for 18 years. She loved her dogs and enjoyed ceramics, word search books, and playing cards. She looked forward to shopping and eating meals out with her family. 
Mrs. Chappo was a member of First United Methodist Church in Kane and a former member of Fourth Presbyterian Church in Washington.
Deceased is her first husband, Roy Winters.

Mary Ann Bennett, 80, of 2 Greeves St., Kane, formerly of DeYoung, died unexpectedly Monday evening, April 28, 2014 at the Kane Community Hospital. Arrangements, in the care of the Ronald McDonald II Funeral Home, Inc., are incomplete and will be announced.

Beverly Sivak honored as Senior Center volunteer-of-year

Everyone except Beverly Sivak.
“I hate weekends,” Sivak said with a rare frown on her face. “You’re all alone with nothing to do.”
Weekends are the only days Sivak can’t go to the Kane Senior Center, which she affectionately calls her “home away from home.”

Kane track teams compete in Lock Haven Invitational

The Kane boys’ and girls’ track and field teams competed in the prestigious Lock Haven Invitational on Saturday. More than three dozen teams took part in the invitational, with more than 1,000 athletes from across Pennsylvania competing.

Emma Jean Carlson, 84, of 215 Park Ave., died Friday, April 25, 2014 at Kane Community Hospital.
Born Feb. 26, 1930, in James City, she was a daughter of Harry and Hazel Smith Bouch. She was married to Walter N. Carlson who preceded her in death.
Mrs. Carlson, a homemaker, was a member of Tabor Evangelical Lutheran Church and was a former member of the V.F.W. Auxiliary.

Eva Caribardi

Eva Caribardi, 91, of 296 Fairview Ave., Johnsonburg, died Friday morning, April 25, 2014 at UPMC Presbyterian in Pittsburgh.
Born March 4, 1923 in Johnsonburg, she was the daughter of Gennaro and Frances Chirillo Aiello. On Oct. 9, 1940 in Johnsonburg, she married James Caribardi Sr., who survives.
Eva was a devout member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church where she founded the committee to prepare funeral dinners. She carried on her mother's tradition of the Feast of the Annunciation with a 365 bead Rosary.

Driver in 6-fatality crash to stand trial on 35 charges

SMETHPORT – A Kane woman will stand trial on 35 charges as the alleged prescription drug-impaired driver in a Route 219 traffic accident last Aug. 31 that claimed the lives of six people.

The Kane Area Recreational and Cultural Commission sponsored “The Josh and Gab Show – An Anti-Bullying Musical Comedy Program for Kids” on Friday for Kane Elementary School students.
