Slater to run cross country in Australia this summer

Kiersten Slater, a sophomore at Smethport Senior High School has been invited by Down Under Sports to run in an international cross country competition this summer in Australia. Slater, the daughter of Misty Sanders of Lantz Corners and Bruce Slater of Mt. Jewett, will be one of about 300 runners from across the United States to participate in the program this July.

James M. Milliron

James M. Milliron, 86, of Stonehedge Circle, Brookville, formerly of Marienville, died Monday, May 20, 2014, at the Good Samaritan Society, Lake Forest Village, Denton, Texas.
He was born April 2, 1928, in Hazelhurst, the son of Harry Vern Milliron and Ruby Nogar. On Jan. 21, 1949, in Kane, he married the former Valjean Maze, who preceded him in death on June 20, 2010.
Mr. Milliron was a veteran having served with the U.S. Navy during World War II.

Linda Carlson retires as Lutheran Home administrator

The “big happy family” at the Lutheran Home at Kane soon will be without its longtime matriarch—Administrator Linda Carlson.
She is retiring from the position she has held since 1985.

Kane All Sports Boosters awards ceremony held Wednesday

The Kane All Sports Boosters held their annual award ceremony on Wednesday night in the Kane High Auditorium. Former Kane Wolves Head Football Coach Dick Smith became the third member of the organization’s Hall of Fame in front of a near capacity crowd. Seniors Evan DeLong and Morgan Nicholson were named Outstanding Male and Female Athletes while three seniors received Scholar Athlete Awards: Riley Austin, Haylee Mague and Brittany Kowatch.

Joyce Marie Simpson

Joyce Marie Simpson, 56, West Stubs Road, Corsica, died Saturday, May 24, 2014.
Born Oct. 11, 1957, in Brookville, she was a daughter of the late James Wolfgang and of Vivian Silvis Wolfgang, who survives and lives in Kane.
She was married to Marlyn C. “Stub” Simpson in Corsica March 26, 1983. He survives.
She worked as a hairdresser for 38 years and was owner/operator of Simpson’s Beauty Shop in Corsica.
She was a member of the Pisgah Presbyterian Church in Corsica and also of the Order of the Eastern Star.
She especially enjoyed her grandchildren, family and friends.
