Wolves lose to Gators 5-3 in season's final home game

October 13, 2014

Less than a month ago, the Kane boys’ soccer team made the trip to Port Allegany to take on a talented Gator squad and got beat soundly 9-0. Monday afternoon’s rematch in Kane proved just how much the Wolves have improved as they played with the Gators for all 80 minutes before dropping a 5-3 decision.
Both teams had scoring opportunities early but neither could cash in until the Gators’ Eli Knapp scored on a direct kick after a hand ball just outside the box. Knapp’s kick was just out of the reach of diving Kane goalie Tyler Schleicher with 18:44 left in the first half.

Mt. Jewett native cooks up several prize-winning recipes

October 12, 2014

When she was a youngster, Dawn Myers Moore of Mt. Jewett spent a lot of time in kitchen.
It was there in the homey kitchen that her mother, Kathy Myers and her late grandmother, Nancy Hipchen of Hazel Hurst introduced her to the joy of cooking. They taught her how to cook and eventually gave her the opportunity to prepare the main meal for the family.
“I loved cooking from that point on,” Moore said.
Her love for cooking has led Moore to experiment with new recipes.

Wolves lose heartbreaker to Golden Tide, 7-6

October 11, 2014

The Kane Wolves lost a hard-fought 7-6 game with Curwensville on Friday night in a battle of 5-1 teams. The Wolves had won their previous game on a last minute field goal against Brockway and appeared as though they might have some last minute magic again. It didn't happen, however, as the Tide got a turnover with just over three minutes left in the game and got a couple crucial first downs to run out the clock and preserve the victory on their home field.

If school tax were raised next year, hike would be minuscule

October 10, 2014

The Kane School Board won’t be endorsing a 2015-16 budget for seven months.
But it already looks like any property tax hike included in the spending plan for the next school year would be limited to less than $1.50 per month for the “average” residential property-owner.
School Business Manager Steve Perry, in a report to the school board Thursday, said the state “adjusted index” for the Kane Area School District for 2015-16 is just 2.9 percent.
