Couple bound for court on drug charges

ST. MARYS – Leif Eric Moats (known as Eric), 40, of St. Marys, was held for court Tuesday for his alleged involvement in a criminal conspiracy for the distribution of the drug bath salts.
The charges stem from the drug sting carried out on July 17 in Ridgway and St. Marys that also resulted in the arrests of Tammy Zawatski and Rachel Shrefler, both of Ridgway, Alan George of New York, and Eric's wife Kristin M. (Kronenwetter) Moats.

Kane boys lose high-scoring match to Ridgway, 8-5

The Kane High boys soccer team hosted Ridgway Tuesday in a match that featured plenty of back-and-forth action and lots and lots of goals.
Ridgway prevailed 8-5 as senior Justin Kinkead scored five goals to lead the Elkers to their fourth win in five matches in the past seven days.
Chris Cummings, a senior, scored three goals for Kane, including one midway through the first half that gave the Wolves their only lead at 2-1. 

Kane falls to ECC in 3 sets

ST. MARYS – Although they played a strong two sets, the Lady Wolves fell short of a win at Elk County Catholic as the Crusaders took the match 25-17, 25-18, 25-3.
"I was very pleased with what the girls did in the first two sets," said Kane head varsity volleyball coach Judy Kessler. "ECC is a very solid, strong, undefeated team and we hung with them and were able to generate an offense. We passed well, served well, and attacked the ball well. And, we had to play without two of our starters because of injuries."

Kane may face hike for pension funds next year

The borough of Kane may be facing an increase in its contribution for employee pension funds next year.
The borough in 2015 is looking at a "minimum municipal obligation (MMO)" of $56,723 for the pension fund for non-uniformed employees.
The MMO in 2015 for the police pension fund is estimated at $17,396.

Sinkhole in road concerns Hamilton Township supervisors

LUDLOW – Motorists traveling on Route 6 at Lincoln Avenue in Ludlow are urged to use caution due to a sinkhole.
The Hamilton Township road crew has placed orange traffic cones around the foot-wide hole to warn motorists. The site is near the Ludlow Post Office.

Kane skate/bike ramps still officially closed

The wooden skate/bicycle ramps at Glenwood Park in Kane are still officially closed.
Howard Kane, president of the Kane Borough Council, said Monday that the inability to obtain insurance is the prime reason for closing the ramps.

Hamlin Twp. to pay Mt. Jewett sewer fee with loan

HAZEL HURST – Hamlin Township will use a loan to pay its fee for connecting the Lantz Corners Sewer District to the Mt. Jewett sewage treatment system.
Acting at a meeting Monday, Hamlin Township Supervisors Jim Trussell, Joni Britton and Dave Okerlund agreed to borrow $105,000 from PNC Bank for "interim financing" for the fee.

Kane girls soccer falls in season opener, 8-1

Kane girls soccer lost 8-1 to Ridgway in the Lady Wolves' season opener at Francis S. Grandinetti Elementary School in Ridgway Monday afternoon.
Julie Alford led the Lady Elkers with four goals while Caitlin Viglione and Rachel Smith had two goals each for Ridgway.
