According to State Senator Joe Scarnati (R-Brockway), the Commonwealth has come a long way in the past few years but significant additional progress must still be made.
As the governor's budget will be released in early February, Scarnati said legislators have created "a tough budget cycle" as they've been "advocating for more funding for our public schools."
Because of this, and other factors, finding the dollars to completely fund the spending plan has been a tall task.
The Kane Lady Wolves opened the game on a 7-0 run and wouldn't look back in a 60-24 win over Ridgway Wednesday night at Ridgway Area High School.
"They kept their focus, that's what I ask of them," Kane coach Dave Kiehl said. "They just keep working hard. We just take it one game at a time and go from there."

Despite frigid temperatures, many Kane area residents turned out Tuesday to donate blood in a "Heart To Heart" blood drive in memory of Chris Riley.
SMETHPORT â€“ Representatives from Kane and Mt. Jewett have been added to the McKean County Planning Commission.
The new commission members include Erin Vassallo, executive director of the Kane Area Development Center, and Don Martyna, a member of the Mt. Jewett Borough Council.
The year 2013 started out very slowly for this nature photographer, as it usually does. I always wanted a picture of the elusive yellow bird from the North, but in recent years they had not been plentiful in our area.
The Kane area is bracing for another blast of bitter cold arctic air with "wind-chill" temperatures of 30 below zero.
The frigid temperatures will be comparable to those of Jan. 7 in the Kane area.

Kevin Yancy Fuller, 55, of 32 Wilson Ave., Port Allegany, was placed in the McKean County Jail on Monday in lieu of $25,000 cash bail set by Kane District Court Judge Dave Engman.
A preliminary hearing has been rescheduled for the former Hamlin Township secretary-treasurer who is charged with allegedly stealing township money.
Julie Sue Graham-Olson, 53, of 12 Gallup St., Mt. Jewett, now faces a hearing Monday, Feb. 10 at 1 p.m. before Kane District Court Judge Dave Engman.
The hearing had been scheduled for Monday.
The defendant requested the hearing earlier this month when she appeared in Central Court at the McKean County Courthouse in Smethport.
