Severe flooding damages Elk County

May 21, 2014

Torrential downpours overnight throughout Elk County closed or washed out several roadways, and damaged several vehicles and structures throughout Wednesday.
"This was a quick storm with a lot of water in a short period of time," said Mike McAllister, Elk County Emergency Services director. "We had a number of incidents countywide, from Highland Township to Jay Township, and in between, but Ridgway Borough really took the brunt of it."

More volunteers needed for ‘KARE For Kane Day’

Ten Wolves set to compete in state meet

Ten members of the Kane boys’ track and field team will compete throughout the next two days in the PIAA Championships at Shippensburg University. Six Wolves will compete in individual events at the state meet, while the other four qualified as members of a relay team.

Johnson and Nicholson set to compete in PIAA meet for Kane girls

Two members of the Kane girls track and field team and 10 members of the boys’ team left this morning for the PIAA Championship meet, which will be held on Friday and Saturday at Shippensburg University.

LUDLOW – The Ludlow Community Association held its 10th Annual Children’s Fishing Derby on May 18 at Wildcat Park. The day was enjoyed by many family and friends, with roughly 200 individuals in attendance.

147 face water shut-offs for unpaid sewer bills

A total of 147 Kane sewer customers face water shut-offs Thursday due to their longtime delinquent bills.
Pennsylvania Municipal Service (PAMS), which now collects Kane sewer bills, has issued the 147 water shut-off notices.

David Okerlund appointed as new Hamlin supervisor

HAZEL HURST – David Okerlund of Marvindale is the new Hamlin Township supervisor.
He fills the vacancy on the three-member Board of Supervisors created by the resignation of Guy Raught of Hazel Hurst.

Danz sentenced in federal court

ERIE – Judge Maurice Cohill sentenced Richard A. Danz, 49, of Matthews, N.C. and formerly of St. Marys, to 46 months in federal prison for embezzling over $400,000 from Elk County Humane Society during his tenure as volunteer treasurer.
