Marilyn Louise Durnell

Marilyn Louise Durnell, 76, of Warren, died Sunday, Nov. 30, 2014, surrounded by her family.
Marilyn was born Aug. 23, 1938, in Warren. She is the daughter of the late Merle and Genevieve Marlett Eames.
Marilyn was a 1956 graduate of Warren High School. She had worked at various locations in the Warren area and was previously the president of the Warren and Forest ARC. Marilyn was a devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother--she was truly committed to her family and faith in God.

James W. Asp

James W. Asp, 45, of 15 Asp Ln., Lamont, died Sunday morning, Nov. 30, 2014 at his residence after a long illness. Arrangements, in care of the Ronald McDonald II Funeral Home, Inc., are incomplete and will be announced.

Kane’s defeat doesn’t diminish great football season

SLIPPERY ROCK – Don’t dwell on Kane’s “Black Friday” loss to Sharpsville in the quarterfinals of the state Class A football tournament.
Look instead on a fantastic season that saw the Wolves bounce back from two straight one-point losses to win four consecutive games en route to a District 9 championship--only the second in school history.

Wolves season comes to an end with loss to Sharpsville

SLIPPERY ROCK – The Kane Wolves storybook season has come to an end. The 2014 Wolves, who regrouped from three midseason one-point losses to go on a postseason tear came up against a tough Sharpsville squad on Friday night and lost 50-14. The District 10 Champion Blue Devils scored 24 points in the final five minutes of the first half to blow open a close game.

Santa Parade, 'Shop Small' Saturday in Kane

The third annual "Shop Small" to promote Kane businesses at Christmastime is slated to launch Saturday-- the same day as the annual Santa Parade.
The Kane Area Development Center (KADC), which includes the Chamber of Commerce, is sponsoring the parade and the "Shop Small" promotion.
The parade is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
Erin Vassallo, executive director of the KADC, said more than a dozen units will participate in the parade.

Wolves meet Blue Devils in state quarterfinal game

The Kane Wolves will try to go where no Wolves’ team has gone before when they take on the District 10 champion Sharpsville tonight. The game, which will be played at Slippery Rock University’s Mihalik-Thompson Stadium beginning at 7 p.m., pits District 9’s 9-3 Wolves against the 10-3 Blue Devils.

Sally Jo Cleer, 78, of 171 Longview Dr., died Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2014 at UPMC Shadyside in Pittsburgh.
Born Feb. 7, 1936, in Sigel, she was a daughter of the late Robert and Sybil Wise Cook. In the spring of 1955, she married Clarence "Clem" Cleer in Kane. 
Together, Sally and Clem owned and operated the Longview Inn in Kane for several years. Over the years, Sally also worked for Dr. Bentz, the Kane Community Hospital, Stackpole and Highlander Energy.

Eagles Club to host community Thanksgiving meal

All alone for Thanksgiving?
Hungry?
Lonely?
Just call the Kane Eagles Club at 837-9422.
The club on Thursday will host its annual "Linda Haight Thanksgiving Dinner" for anyone in the Kane community who needs a meal on "turkey day."
From noon to 1 p.m. Thursday, club members will deliver dinners in the Kane area. From 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day, dinners will be served at the club at 238 Chase St. at Bayard Street. There is no charge for the dinners.
Walk-ins are welcome. No reservations are required.

Kane foe in playoff game is in familiar territory

Kane's opponent in the "Elite 8" state football playoff game Friday night-- is in familiar territory.
The Blue Devils have won nine District 10 Class A football titles-- eight in the last 19 years under head coach Paul Piccirilli. 
Sharpsville, which won the state Class A football championship in 1997, will meet Kane on Friday at 7 p.m. at Slippery Rock University.
This will be the third consecutive week that Sharpsville has had a playoff game at Slippery Rock.
